To be perfectly frank there's no outright hostility that I've seen towards Americans...quite the contrary, usually the first instinct to ask Americans where they come from in the States, to see if we've visited that particular part on holiday. ;)

Please keep in mind I also used to live in the Socialist Hell Hole of Islington, North London too. There's no burning American flags, or anything like that. We're glad for foreigners that speak English, to be perfectly honest.

Regards, Ivan

I'm not sure how the Labour Party of Tony Blair is any different from the Torie Party of John Major/Michael Howard. Both are mushy moderate friends of the U.S. on foreign policy questions, but who also believe in domestic Socialism - just not the hard core variety Socialism.

There isn't a dimes worth of difference between the two.

Nothing I've seen - but I've been working most of the day. What is definitely true is that Tory voters are consistently more motivated than Labour ones. Labour voters are more half hearted.

I am a huge Jane Austin fan. I have always longed to see the English countryside as well as London. Hope I get my wish some day.

My husband's family are of English origin-Payne. He was told the spelling was changed from Paine.

I hope the BBC exit polls are better than the ones in the US favoring John Kerry in early afternoon!

The worst possible outcome would be a narrow Labour win. Blair would probably be dumped, or he'd be forced to kowtow to the leftist wing of his party.

There's a huge difference - government spending and regulation has exploded under Labour rule - we've lost 1 million jobs in industry since they came to power, and added 850,000 government jobs. 66 separate tax rises have occured - albeit quietly, and using a variety of methods, one of which is to increase what we call "National Insurance Contributions" (sort of like Social Security taxes). Furthermore, Labour has cut defence spending.

The Tories will cut taxes, cut bureaucracy, cut spending (at least increases), secure the borders through controlled immigration (one of the centrepieces of their platform), reject the EU Constitution (something Labour wants us to swallow) and increase defence spending.

To say there's no difference is disingenuous. I agree that the Tories haven't been strong enough in pointing out the differences.

Regards, Ivan

The John Majors and Michael Howards strike me as being like our own domestic RINOs.
