Islamic leaders demand apology for 'hate-filled remarks'

Evangelist Pat Robertson is in trouble with U.S. Islamic organizations for saying Muslims should not serve in the president's Cabinet or as judges.
Pat Robertson
In an appearance on ABC's "This Week with George Stephanopoulos" Sunday, Robertson, who ran for president in 1988, said if were elected he would not appoint Muslims to his Cabinet and that he was not in favor of Muslims serving as judges.
"They have said in the Quran there's a war against all the infidels," Robertson said. "Do you want somebody like that sitting as a judge? I wouldn't."
The Washington-based Council on American-Islamic Relations yesterday called on "mainstream political and religious leaders" to repudiate the "hate-filled remarks."
"This type of hate-filled rhetoric deserves repudiation from all who respect America's long-standing tradition of pluralism," said Rabiah Ahmed, CAIR's communication coordinator.
Ahmed said many Muslims already serve with distinction in many levels of government, including judgeships at the state and local level.
Arsalan Iftikhar, CAIR's national legal director, said Robertson "has taken his far-right-wing rhetoric to absurd levels."
"He is trying to perpetuate this notion that Islam is a monolithic entity inherently at odds with modernity and democracy," Iftikhar said. "That is absolutely false. ... American Muslims have long been contributing members of American society.
Iftikhar added: "And I guarantee to Mr. Robertson that Muslims will one day become part of the federal bench -- whether or not he likes it."
Muslims were particularly outraged by a 2002 appearance on Fox News Channel's "Hannity & Colmes" program in which Robertson said about Islam's prophet, Muhammad: "This man was an absolute wild-eyed fanatic. He was a robber and a brigand. And to say that these terrorists distort Islam, they're carrying out Islam. ... I mean, this man (Muhammad) was a killer. And to think that this is a peaceful religion is fraudulent."
Robertson also called Islam "a monumental scam" and claimed the Quran "is strictly a theft of Jewish theology."

Like I said, the reason you haven't seen anything is because your not looking, the reason you haven't heard anything is because your not choosing to listen. I have cited several examples of actions taken that show Muslims willingness to combat the terrorists, also other people have cited examples of Muslim country leaders condemning attacks and I can personally attest to the fact that many Muslims have told me this is not what Islam is about. I am not going to blame the Muslim people for not following your ridiculously high standards of redemption.

Hitler did this, Stalin did that, individuals who murdered under those regimes are responsible, but you don't label every German, Soviet, or Japanese citizen as a butcherApparently, unfortunately, that's all that some people are able to under stand. Their knees' jerking takes up all their brain power...

y no denomination test they would have said no denomination test. But the fact is they chose SPECIFIC language to convey a SPECIFIC point. RELIGOUS tests were not to be administered means just what is says, it protects all religions. You can rationalize your unwarranted contempt for a group of people all you want, just don't juxtapose your beliefs on to the founding fathers intentions. I have read many of the Founders works and I was NOT juxtaposing my beliefs with the Founders. And what's this CR*P about unwarranted contempt? Get a life.

They have done alot, remember many Muslims don't live in free societies where they can properly voice there decent and outrage. Plus many Muslim organizations across the world have publicly condemned the attacks. I am led to believe some people choose not to acknowledge this because of their prejudice

Roberson blamed the terrorists for 911 without doubt. No he did not. He blamed America and the fact that we have a secular government not run like, oh, Calvin's Geneva. The other fellow on the show, Falwell, was right there going "uh huh" and "Yeppers" just like Ed McMahon...

Because by NOT condemning the acts of the terrorists -- like REGULAR Americans do day in and day out -- they are silently turning their religion over to the fanatics and giving tacid approval to their actions in the name of Islam. American Muslims are not "regular" Americans?
If American Muslims can be proven to be behind terrorist plots, then let's arrest them and put them in jail.
But demanding some kind of loyalty oath from innocent people is reminiscent of putting Japanese Americans in prison camps during World War II.
And I don't see one bit of evidence that Muslims in America, as a group, are becoming radicalized.
We'll just have to disagree on this one, Howlin.

And take your Islamic apologist rhetoric somewhere else; I'm not buying it.

Muslims cannot be trusted to hold the Constitution superior to there murderous cult.

Ahh yes the religion of peace that you love so much. He is probably some brainwashed college idiot that "thinks" he is so enlightened. I am so grateful to have attended college when critical thinking skills were required and challenged. What passes for a college education these days is pathetic. These "so called" enlightened students who have been brain washed to think the U.S. is the sole problem in the world are the same wimps that will cry to the Warrior class to protect if and when things go terrible bad. It is useless to engage them.

Well apparently whatever you were reading lead you to the wrong conclusions. Its the same thing with this whole gun right debate, yeah it may be explicitly defined in the constitution, but libs manage to cite reasons such as "what the founders intended or couldn't have anticipate" to justify enacting laws that totally violate the constitution concerning gun rights. Same thing here, it is explicitly defined, and it was defined that way for a reason. And yes your attempt to reinterpret is IS juxtaposing your view on it. And Yes if you hold contempt for some one who did nothing to you, it is unwarranted.

American Muslims are not "regular" Americans? Muslims in America want to be just like every other religion.
Now I've seen YOU defend and explain the Catholic Church since the day I got here; I've even seen your criticize it.
Please tell me what is keeping the Muslims in this country from doing the exact same thing about their religion.
Unless they don't believe anything is wrong.

Catholics cannot be trusted to hold the Constitution superior to there (sp) foreigner Pope.
Now how do you like that?

BULLshit. They, themselves, invited the 'demonization', BECAUSE they did nothing! Not a damned thing after, ...9/11....USS Cole...Khobar Towers...the FIRST WTC bombing...OKC bombing...Lockerbie...the Philipines nightclub bombing...etc. What are they supposed to do? All the people who committed those atrocities were citizens of other countries.
You seem to want to stigmatize American Muslims, who go to work like every other American and try to raise their families like every other American, just because they keep their heads down because they don't want to become objects of scorn of...well, of people on this thread, for instance.
These are American citizens, momma. You want them to take the heat for something done by Saudis, for some reason.

Lol, what critical thinking skills did your college teach you because you totally just mischaracterize everything that I am and stand for. All I see you doing is transferring what you hate on to who you perceive me to be. Again not very conducive to sound critical thinking.
Furthermore did your college teach you that critical thinking involved just attacking some ones intelligence and not dealing with the substance of the issue, because that is what you just did.
