What people are referring to as the "extreme right" (a typical leftist term) is the BASE of the Republican Party. Christian conservatives. Men and women of faith, Catholic, Protestant, and evangelical, even Jewish as Judeo-Christian Right would likely be more accurate.
And people like you attack them as the Taliban.
Now, what is more damaging to the GOP -- a few people dissapointed that Laura told some off-color jokes, or the rabid Christian-haters who condemn them as extremists and even Taliban!!!!!!!
