"Nine o'clock and Mr. Excitement here is in bed, and I am watching 'Desperate Housewives' -- with Lynne Cheney. Ladies and gentlemen, I am a desperate housewife."

I was trying to understand where this "desperate housewife" monologue headed after the above quote.

I did not see the White House correspondents annual dinner.

Can anyone who watched confirm the quote below came from Laura Bush at White House correspondents annual dinner? If someone made this up, I would like to see it exposed as a fabrication.

"I am married to the President of the United States and here is our typical evening. Nine o'clock, Mr. Excitement here is sound asleep, and I am watching Desperate Housewives. With Lynne Cheney. Ladies and gentleman, I am a desperate housewife. I mean if those women on that show think they're desperate, they ought to be with George. One night after George went to bed, Lynne Cheney, Condi Rice, Karen Hughes and I went to Chippendales....I won't tell you what happened, but Lynne's Secret Service code name is now Dollar Bill."

A great evening.

Laura stole the show.

It sounds like you watched the show.

Did Laura Bush actually say the words in the quote in reply #12 concerning the trip to Chippendales, or did someone fabricate that quote?

I simply cannot imagine Laura Bush saying those words at a correspondents dinner.

C-SPAN will reair the Correspondents' Dinner today at 10AM EDT (7AMPDT) on C-SPAN3.

See C-SPAN TV Schedules for times it may be repeated on other C-SPAN channels this week.

She said that. That is a direct quote. See this post and this post in this thread for more analysis of the particulary unclassy jokes the first lady was telling.

Yes, she did.
She also said they would not have told anybody, but Ruth Ginsberg and Sandra Day O'Connoer saw them.
