In one sense, I don't blame the media for being furious. This affair probably cost them a combined mint. All that air time, and sending crews to the scene, putting them up in motels, feeding them, transporting expensive equipment, etc.

I'm sure when they send Greta to a news scene for a couple of days, they don't put her up in a Motel 6.

I suppose the story is good for ratings, but its "hotness" is rather temporary and doesn't replace outlaid cash in the media pockets. I'd be ticked, also.

This is sweeps month, isn't it? I don't think this outcome will cost them a dime.

The media "invests" in true crime stories under the knowledge that some of them will turn into long-term cash cows. E.g. Peterson. It disappoints them when one of their invetments gives up story value early. You can bank on that.

The media also fancies itself as having a good nose for the truth and street smarts. They are not amused when they are exposed as gullible suckers, e.g., promoting a flase direction to the story. They are not amused whrn they get caught lying either, but that's a different story ;-)
