I got that lecture once, when I was 15 and my family became, well, sort of in the news. I did just what Mother said and it was a good thing. Southerners don't turn on family no matter what they do. We hold on tight, defend them to the death and hold our heads high.
I haven't thought of this in so many years, it seems to be bred in the bones. Her Mother is now giving lectures to everyone in the bridal party and his Mother is having his Dad give him lectures.
