..terrible service. They don't know what they're doing, usimgh fake names, always covering their derriere and giving bad advice. The worse thing about it is that you cannot get around them. Consequently, I have purchased a Dell for the last time, ever.
I"m trying to get the money back that I paid for the service I'm not getting.

If you think this is bad, BOEING is MANDATING, to at least one sub-contractor and probably more, that 25% of the software development for the 787 be done in INDIA!

Their answer is ALWAYS "reinstall windows". Of course that will usually work but it's rarely necessary. They don't think, they just read from a manual and tell you what it says to say.
True. Myself, I've worked in IT although I learned it most on my own. When something goes wrong on the two Windows 98 boxes I have (or the old Windows 3.1 box), I fix it myself and if I need help, I research on the web or just figure it out on my own. I've also worked Windows 2000, a little XP as well as 95. Heck, when I was CIO for a startup (although it did fold, long story) I took care of all the computers and when I needed to configure a network card, I took it out, got names and numbers and looked for drivers and programs on the internet. I was successful and I had the PC on the network. Of course, not everyone is a geek but sometimes it is better to hunt down any geeky friends before you call. B-)

This is after our genius of a former Mayor (now Governor) gave these rats tax breaks to lure them to Nashville. I wish we could outsource some of these rotten politicians as well. I'll never buy anything Dell, for this reason alone. I'm not going to speak with someone who can barely speak English about a tech problem again. It's infuriating.
"Outsource Congress!!!" - Michael Savage.
Sorry, couldn't resist. B-)

"But would it not be more cost effective to hire people that understand pc's, pay them a decent salary and let them solve the customer's problem with one short phone call? I guess that is a dream from the past, but would think it would do wonders for repeat business."
I asked my production manager pretty much the same question when I worked at a repair depot in Memphis. His response was, "If you can find such an animal, please let me know."
What he meant was, Memphis simply did not have a qualified employment base to draw from.

Dell Hell:
You are transferred endlessly between the different circles of hell, never coming to a conclusion to you journey, At each new location, you experience a new toture. (see I actually read Dante's Inferno!)

I love my Dell computer but this is getting ridiculous. How much extra would you be willing to pay to have an American answer your question?
So why did you buy a Dell Computer?
Dell is responding to the consumer, which is why they are a successful company.

What he meant was, Memphis simply did not have a qualified employment base to draw from. Must be they are all working at Wal-Mart, the King of import and cheap goods. Many on this web-site applaud old Sam for his success--but surely these folks are not complaining about Dell's outsourcing.

I'm not going to speak with someone who can barely speak English about a tech problem again. It's infuriating. Don't know how we'll get around that. I called Bellsouth tech support a few months back, got someone in India. Last week I called Symantec, got someone in India. I kept asking the Symantec guy to repeat himself because I couldn't understand a word he said.

Funny how you rarely hear of top executives having their jobs outsourced to India. I'll bet that there are plenty of talented businessmen and businesswomen in India who would be happy to run Fortune 500 companies for 1/3 of what current execs are making.

I called on of the Indian call ceners to helpa family memberwith a problem. Bad hardware, just needed a RMA to ship it back. It was one of the worst thing I have ever experienced involving computers. Could not understand half of the htings they said.

If they can get equal or better replacement for 1/3 the cost, then smart companies will outsource exec postions. It is effectively happening already, the big Indian IT companies have their own executive staffs.

Dell's India staff will swell to more than 10,000 workers by year end, as the company fills out call center and software development roles.
What?! Are American workers too busy whining about how society owes them a living?! Are these Indians infringing on the right of Americans to have a salary and other socialist entitlements?! Call the snarling UberKonservativ dogs!
To: MrShoop
Serious question - would you actually want the government to interfere with the freedom of a business to hire abroad?
Yes, these UberKonservativs would. Their May Day celebration is just around the corner, wherein they'll parade for their socialist entitlements to an easy salary. Seriously, those who obsess about foreign workers are excuse-mongering for their personal failures, doubts, and hopelessness, and the Democratic Party is ready and willing to take them under its protective wing, if they haven't already.

So why did you buy a Dell Computer? I bought a Dell computer and paid for a 3 year complete care warranty. My main reason for buying Dell was for their warranty service (for which I paid over $300). I was completely satisfied with my one service return - but those hours on the phone overseas while the tech tried to convince himself/me that it was software, not hardware, left me wondering how many repeat customers they would lose. The techs in Memphis did a great job on the repairs and I didn't have too much trouble undoing the software changes the overseas support person had me made (I refused to reload windows and asked for a supervisor).

I heard one reason that Dells are so popular is that they don't load up a lot of junk software as HP and others do.

I heard one reason that Dells are so popular is that they don't load up a lot of junk software as HP and others do. It had its share, but I'll admit was better than HP. I think you can specify what software you do and do not want from Dell.
