There are certain ways to go about notifying a school, at least here in Texas, and you should always be PRO active, not RE active.

I always keep up with what's being taught in school. I have meetings with my all daughters' teachers at the beginning of the year and make it very plain what I believe to be the purview of 'education'. I also go over the curriculum so I'm not caught by surprise over what they'll be covering during the year.

Anytime there is something coming up that I disagree with, I write a letter to the school and have it delivered by my daughters. This is hand delivery, and considered legal notice.

Recently, I had the girls given alternate assignments because the *Fair* that the teachers had dreamed up was:
1. a monumental waste of classroom time, and
2. classroom time was being used to generate revenue for the school.

They were quite polite in issuing the alternate assignments.

There is also the option of sending a letter via certified mail, return receipt requested. Send it that way and state in the letter *This letter serves as legal notice*, the school is then LEGALLY notified of your concerns.

You can also find a NOTICE AND DECLARATION OF PARENTAL RIGHTS, which can be hand delivered or send certified mail.

If something comes up between the parent and the school, DO NOT discuss it in ANY manner other than writing. (you can specify >contact me only via USPS< in your letter)

Verbal communications are NOT legally binding, and if you *take their word for it*, you won't have a legal leg to stand on.

You make some very wonderful comments.

Like you, I also believe in being PROactive as opposed to being REactive........and the teachers at my daughter's school actually appreciate it.

When I recently needed to keep her out of school for a time I requested and received all class assignments and homework for the missed time and she worked on them at home. Additionally I spoke with at least one of the teachers on a daily basis.

Parental involvement can and will keep some of this PC crapola under control.
