It's been described as "the worst flu you ever had" and pain that never goes away. Fibromyalgia affects some 3 million to 6 million Americans -- primarily women.
Many struggle just to convince their doctor of their pain because symptoms are varied and no test can diagnose it. One woman finally found an answer herself.

Darlene discovered the key to her relief was in the foods she ate and those she eliminated. The trigger seemed to be a substance called excitotoxins. It's found in monosodium glutamate, high fructose corn syrup, even vegetables high in glutamate.
Without it, Darlene is like a new person.

Eliminating MSG and aspartame can be tough to do. Many processed foods contain these items and the consumer may be unaware since they can be listed as other ingredients.
According to Truth in Labeling Campaign, the following substances always contain MSG:
autolyzed yeast, calcium caseinate, gelatin, glutamate, glutamic acid, hydrolyzed protein, monopotassium glutamate, monosodium glutamate, sodium caseinate, textured protein, yeast extract , yeast food, and yeast nutrient.

Wow! That is fantastic!
I sure think so! :-)
I have been diagnosed with it and I had to quit my job as a cashier. I am finally feeling a little better with a sleeping pill and some stretching. I need to find a new job but I'm terrified of having a major flareup.
It's been interesting because I knew I had IBS but I also have muscle pain a lot. I never even thought the two could be related. Just had an endocrinologist find my thyroid is out of wack. The meds. for that have helped a lot with fatigue. Women especially need to get their thyroids checked by a specialist when these problems start. Most doctors will take a test and say things are normal. But there is a range of normal and you might not be at your level of normal. The specialist is better trained to diagnose and help that.
I have heard a number of times that dropping wheat products and increasing-drastically- your intake of protein is very helpful for this problem. Alot of women don't eat enough protein.
Hi,
I have had fibro for many years. I have to say you made me chuckle because you think I might be tense. Too funny. I am quite the opposite! Perhaps many who have fibro are tense, but I imagine that many also are not. I also have a very high pain tolerance.
Great advice! Much of that is what keeps my fibro well within limits that I only consider it an annoyance in my ilfe. Chilling out by being in prayer and realizing that God is in total control and focusing on His truths instead of TV and all that stuff is the main key in not letting it get to you and controlling your life, IMO. If we let something other than God control our lives, there are always trade-offs. Always.
I DO have a clue because I do have fibro, along with a few of the other autoimmunes and "chilling out" and being in humble prayer are a major factor. I don't think he was saying that it is a mental/anxiety thing - I didn't read that. But his advice WILL help. :)
I don't think anyone knows what the cause is. All I know is that it makes people miserable. And other people come up with theories.
Funny thing though. Nutrition is like Religion and Politics. If you don't believe it - it is hard to learn the TRUTH.
P.S. Thyroid malfunction is a partner with FMS. Along with the following:
Childhood growing pains
"Traveling" nocturnal sinus stuffiness
Allergies
Post nasal drip
Drooling in sleep
Swollen glands
Difficulty swallowing
Dry cough
TMJ symptoms
Dizziness when turning head or changing field of view
Runny nose
Sore throat
Stiff neck
Mold/yeast sensitivity
Reflux esophagitis
Headaches/migraines
Light and/or broken sleep pattern with unrefreshing sleep
Sweats
Morning stiffness
Fatigue
Shortness of breath
Painful weak grip that may let go
Menstrual problems and/or pelvic pain
PMS
I'll stop there - but there is MUCH more - and there are cross-overs between FMS, CMPS, MS and CFS. Great huh? JK Just remember to RELAX!!!!
I wouldn't know. I've never tried that.....:}
My wife and I both have mild afflictions of "something" - probably yeast, maybe fibro. Works like a charm for us.
Ping for further read.
To hear it from themselves, fibromyalgia is a common ailment among Melungeons. Thus fibro = M. flu. :)
In my best Johnny Carson voice: "I did not know that."
Thanks to you and another who called a few products to my attention. I have not updated my list in some time - perhaps the Aspartame article form many months ago changed a few formulas!
Finally!
Thanks again, and I will dig further! JK
