WASHINGTON Conflicts are multiplying between congressional Republican moderates and the White House as President Bush pursues his aggressively conservative second-term agenda.
The unexpected resistance to Bush's nomination of John R. Bolton as U.N. ambassador from several Senate Republicans marks the latest, and potentially most intense, clash. But battles over Social Security, Bush's budget proposal and ending the filibuster for judicial nominations also are raising tensions inside the party.

"Clashes Growing Between President Bush and Liberals Dressed in GOP Clothing."
Wow the L.A. Times is still in Business
Anyone to the far left is a moderate to the LA times. Bush is a rabid, right wing, divisive conservative.
Leave it to the ultra liberal LA Times to twist something way out of proportion.
la times enquirer what is the difference
Ping for lazamaquitterearlytaz and others of his tribe.....
"aggressively conservative second-term agenda"
This undoubtedly refers to his prompt solution of our leaky borders </sarcasm>
From the end of the article:

But on several fronts such as restructuring Social Security, limiting federal spending and nominating the unwavering conservative Bolton for the U.N. Bush is pushing moderates to the limits of their political and philosophical comfort levels.
Antonia Ferrier, Snowe's communications director, expressed a common sentiment among GOP moderates when she said, "The senator will try to support the president when she can, but there are times when she has to do what is in the best interest of her state."
Another drug induced wet dream of Brownstein posing as news in the LA Slimes.
You mean the Country Club crowd?
You are correct. Bush IS a GOP "moderate".
The article should have read "Clashes Growing between Bush and GOP RINO Leftists".
But in Liberal Journalistspeak, you ALWAYS refer to liberals as "moderates", moderates as "conservatives", and conservatives as "far right-wing extremists".
Olympia Snowe is a Moderate. Silly me.
The "Hill" just had a story saying that clashes were growing between Bush and the GOP Conservatives. Jeesh. At any rate, I believe this is more wishful thinking disquised as news from the LA Times (the best lil fiction in California).
This is really is a false paradigm.
The clash is between Bush and leftist democrats. Liberal republicans have just been scared.

I agree, for sure. At the same time, Bush is not a staunch conservative. The real issue is the viability of the Repubs as the "conservative element" in our government. The weakling, "politics first", RINOs are bad news and they should be purged from the party -- and replaced with conservative team players who will support a common conservative agenda which is the MANDATE of the conservative voters who put them in Washington. Part of this responsibility lies with the Repub Party -- the other with the members of the party, the voters. A house-cleaning is in order.
??? I must be holding my face wrong.
