Why is it ok to make blond jokes virtually anywhere and by anyone but jokes about any other race, ethnicity or religious persuasion or stereotype is considered racist and taboo?

There's no punch line, I'm serious.

Yes, I know that blondes come in many nationalities, races and religions so it's slightly different. But I still find it ironic.

I'm not easily offended or anything. Some of the blond jokes are hilarious and sometimes true. It's just something I've thought about and have never heard anyone bring up.

I have always suspected there was an element of race hatred in Blond jokes. Actually I have told them myself and my wife is a natural blond, but I still believe it.

I remember around 1974 a radio station in San Antonio was asking people to phone in and comment on blondes and if they really were dumb.

I noticed every person who phoned and sounded like they had a hispanic accent, went on and on about how dumb blondes were.

What they were really saying is "I hate white women, especially pretty ones".

Oh, BTW, Cameron is one really dumb blonde.

I don't know, but I'll guess.

Unlike racist jokes, jokes based on hair color don't refer to an unchangeable human attribute. The “dumb blonde” stereotype applies more to dyed (e.g. Marilyn Monroe) than to natural blondes. Precisely because becoming a blonde is a choice (Blondes have more fun!), the blonde is an acceptable subject for guilt-free stereotyping. Marilyn and her successor Hollywood dumb blondes have intentionally perpetuated the stereotype.

Random House has a brief history of dumb Hollywood blondes.

While the dumb blonde stereotype does not usually extend to males, I think it does apply to peroxide-blond male surfers. Again, this is partly because their hair color is often chosen, not natural. Remember Sean Penn’s character Spicoli in “Fast Times at Ridgemont High”? The quintessential dumb blond surfer.

Of course, males with natural blond hair and blue eyes are, by definition, Nazis.
