Flower Mound is about 35 miles due north of Cedar Hill. They had their own rain cloud this morning and then an hour or so ago.
Not to bum you out, but, the same set up, with the entrenched cut off low over the ID-OR-NV border, and the subtropical jet coming across from Socal, shows no signs of weakening. There are short waves with interspersed cold fronts stacked up clear across to the Kamchatka Peninsula. It is turing out to be an "interesting" spring ...
Tornado on ground in Maypearl, TX
That cell was a right-mover and managed to miss downtown Dallas, at least.
Tornado activity this Spring has been right about on the long-term average.
Actually this outbreak today missed being a really epic, historical outbreak due to a lack of moisture. Moist Gulf air has had a difficult time making it into the plains up to this point.
Normal for this time of year. Ft. Worth/Dallas was built right down the center lane of Tornado Alley.
This year has been dry and boring though. If it weren't for heavy sprinkling my lawn would look pretty bad.
Yes, Flower Mound, TX. Thanks a lot for the information. Appreciate it.
Doesn't seem to get hit badly (I realize the environs have been hit, though) relative to Oklahoma City, though...probably just flukey luck.
Stay safe from them taynordoes, OK?
Always bad storms. Not always a tornado.
We lived just north enough of the Metroplex that we were "relatively" safe. (huddled in the interior bathroom with sofa cushions over our heads!)
Had a lot of cloud rotation and those stringy black clouds over southern Johnson county around 4pm CDT. It moved east toward Venus at a high rate of speed.
We are safe in Ft Worth. Just a pretty rainbow outside!!!
If only there was a spell checker for the thread title!
Reelee... hukd on fonix wurkd fur mee!
Johnson County had golfball sized hail...glad I was driving and not near home at the time...I seemed to manage to somehow totally miss all of the storms today by heading from No. Dallas down around and through Ft. Worth...just missed it everywhere...but I saw the "golfballs" on the ground (will post picture as soon as I upload it).
is that anything like being the green at a driving range?
I would say that we were lucky, as wife said it got dark, then those things just dropped straight down! No winds, thank God, or it would have been worse.
I'm guessing that the trees lost @ 50% of their foliage, and the rest of the leaves that hung on look tattered. We HAD vinyl gutters on the back side of the house - totally useless now. We also had one of those decorative carriage-type lights - toasted. Deep pockmarks remain in the ground.
Wife & I are trying to get back in the planting mood (sigh), since it's been so gorgeous lately we had done alot of work (you know, while you CAN, before the heat comes). I wonder if the trees will recover.
PS....'yous guys' should put stuff on your "about" page(s)...we're probably neighbors! (Like, we could get together and FReep the Dem HQ on the Cleburne square....where they had a "Bush Lies" sign in their window for the longest time....now, they have "Hands off Social Security").
Probably!!! I'll be right off the 917 split out near Eagan ;o) I picked that piece of hail up at CC Cooke out near Keene. ;o)
I am in Richardson/Plano, so I guess I am north of it?
I am from So Cal -- I have to guess.
Well, howdy neighbor! That'd be a right nice lookin' Keene hailstone...:)
