actually Christ did say "love the sinner more" something about sinners need more love to guide them back onto the path and I believe that is what many Christians believe, you should love gays, not hate them but strive to put them back on the path of righteousness, which is why you have all these Christian groups that help "gay" men get back to straight
however I tend to agree it is an innate thing, why especially when it could result in your death or imprisonment not too long ago and still in some cultures would you pursue a gay lifestyle - the "gay" men who are converted back to straight are just suppressing their impulse, good thing? bad thing? well look at pedophiles, oh that they could suppress their impulses
then again adultery is punishable by death in parts of the Muslim world and that doesn't stop people from engaging in that behaviour either......
Sure it does, but it stops most people, not all. That's why it is punishable by death.
