Information you people seem to not have bothered to find out
1. the man's crime was exposing himself (not rape or touching a child)
2. he did this ONE time at the age of twenty
3. his mother says he was mentally much younger due to an injury (who knows if that is true)
4. he did not repeat his offense for 18 years
5. he relied on leg braces and a wheelchair to get around
6. the hospital he left was not due to his offense... he said he felt suicidal because of the way people were treating him and Harris' putting forward the idea that signs should be posted in the community, because of this he was involuntarily committed for one day.
This man committed a very minor crime 18 years earlier, and because there have been so many highly talked about crimes against children in Florida, hysteria and misinformation spread causing a man who was physically and mentally disabled to kill himself! He was NOT a child rapist, and he spent his time in jail for the crime he did commit. People need to get their facts straight. What was on that flier was a flat out lie, how would you feel if someone stuck fliers saying you raped children up all over the neighborhood?! It would be no more a lie!

2. If he was slandered or libeled, he should sue.

I agree. There is a young man in my neighborhood listed as a sex offender because he slept with his 17 year old girlfriend (a minor) when he was 18 (an adult). What I was upset about was that so many here took delight in this man's death. No one should ever delight in another's demise. That's not to say that death is not a sometimes necessity, but that is all it should be -- a necessity -- not a cause for joy.

There's no joy in a person killing themselves with alchohol and drugs but there's no point in distorting what happened either. He was charged with two counts of oral copulation with a 9 year old. Testimony revealed that he told the little girl not to tell anybody. He plead down to indecent exposure as is common in cases involving little girls with parents who think greater harm is done to their child with the courtroom process. His sentence was 27 months.
Moreover he almost killed himself in January with an OD of alchohol and drugs, 4 months before the posters were printed, causing more damage to his already damaged brain. Now those are the facts of the matter and my hope is he asked God for forgiveness before he went.
