CA: Security Tight at Jefferson High (3 race riots in LA High Schools in a week)
LA Times ^ | 4/19/05 | Cara DiMassa and Nicholas Shields

Classes were tense but orderly at Jefferson High School today after unrest that attracted extraordinary security and the city's top political and education officials.

To enhance safety, entry was limited and security officers with wands checked students for weapons. A total of 44 school and Los Angeles Police Department officers patrolled the campus today.

Officials also barred gang paraphernalia and provided bag lunches, in part to avoid concentration of students in the cafeteria, the flash point of several melees.

Officials estimated that school attendance was down by 1,400 students.

The relative calm today followed two melees on the campus on East 41st Street in less than a week. Several students were injured.

More than 100 black and Latino students were involved in what administrators said was a racially and gang-motivated brawl Monday. Officials said school police used pepper spray to defend themselves and quell the melee. Six students were arrested and another suffered a broken hip.

First black leaders tell their own people that white people keep colored folks down. Then latinos (legal and illegal) show up and are willing to take any job that blacks considered demeaning. Well those demeaning jobs provided the latinos an economical foundation to establish themselves in LA. They are now starting to buy up the beatup homes and fixing them up, establish community businesses and services, and becoming a new powerful voting bloc in local elections. While the blacks sit home and blame the world, latinos are slowly taking over their world. Now the blacks resent the latinos, and when ask how that is possible if whites control this country and keep people of color down, the blacks have a new dogma. Latinos succeed because whites will tolerate brown skin people but abhor black skin people. Blacks are starting to view latinos as a tool of white America. In another twenty years it will be interesting to see how the black/latino conflict evolves. I predict it will get worst and violent. You think immigration reformist were too harsh on latinos, wait till you hear what will be said by black leaders. The KKK will be suing black leaders for plagarism.

First of all, Fee, your profile doesn't indicate the state you reside in. Is all your "information" first hand? Mine is and my observations differ from yours.

In Los Angeles, I have seen Mexican and central American immigrants come into nice urban neighborhoods and turn them into trashy ghettoes, such as Echo Park, McArthur Park, mid-Wilshire and Exposition Park, to name a few. That's quite a contrast with your imaginary picture of latinos fixing up 'beat up' homes.

I have, for many decades, observed well kept black residential neighborhoods, not just Baldwin Hills but the humble homes in the Florence-Graham area. I also observe legions of black folks holding down respectable jobs day in and day out. So sorry, your tired cliche of 'blacks sitting home and blaming the world' doesn't play. The black folks dislike the latinos for the same reason that I and many other residents of L.A. do; they are trashing our culture and downgrading our economy.

Your one correct statement is that latinos are taking over. It is not just because they take 'demeaning' jobs, but they take over workplaces. They also create jobs that didn't exist, such as illegal street vending which is trashing our area. They undercut the good Japanese gardeners we used to have and do inferior work. They undercut the trained child care workers, wheel the babies to the nearest park where they jabber with each other in Spanish while letting the kids cry and go hungry. They have the 'poor little thing' act down pat, so the nice white lady will give them clothes, shoes and God knows what else.

They are also willing to take all the handouts available, from food banks, from churches, from hospitals, from schools, from unions, from employers and yet they demand more.

I could go on and on. But, basically, they are more of a liability than an asset with their parasitic subculture stealing our country from us before our eyes.

I agree with 95% of what you are saying however I disagree with your blanket statement about Mexicans.

Every race has it's lowlifes. Whites, Blacks, Hispanics, Asians and even Jews. Myer Lansky and Bugsy Segal were no Boy Scouts. LOL And for every nice Black neighborhood I can take you to an equally nice Hispanic one.

It's the illegals and the gang elements of all races who commit crimes that are the blight of our society. Clean up the drugs and the gangs and ALL neighborhoods and races will improve dramatically!

But WE MUST SECURE THE BORDERS AND DEPORT THE ILLEGALS!

The nice Hispanic neighborhoods are the traditional ones, in Eagle Rock, Glassell Park and East L.A. Humble, but nice. They are mostly Chicanos, second, third and fourth generation Mexican. But the waves of immigrants since the '70s have absolutely devastated wide areas of L.A. like nothing I've ever seen. Much worse than any black ghettoes we ever had.

We do have numerous upstanding Latino citizens, and notably the ones who have served and do serve in the military.

I was responding specifically to Fee's romanticized assertions about the recent wave of immigrants.

Then I have no disagreement. :-)

You and I know that the Chicanos are some of the finest people you would ever want to know and some of the most patriotic Americans there are! I served in the Marine Corps with Chicanos. And I would go to hell and back with them in combat! Not to overlook the fabulous Black Americans that I served with.

Semper Fi,
Kelly

High five, Kel. I'm WITH you!

That's what makes this so sad. I used to think of L.A. as a role model for the world when we used to "all get along."

The school day at Jefferson High School passed without incident Tuesday. But it was far from typical.

After a surprise visit from Los Angeles Unified School District Supt. Roy Romer, Mayor James K. Hahn showed up. At one point, school Police Chief Alan Kerstein, who was also there, said 29 school police officers patrolled the South Los Angeles campus and 12 more roamed nearby. Attendance at the 2,400-student school was down by almost half.

Larry "The Sage from South Central" Elder had a talk show on KABC790 last night, and had a college student that want to Santa Monica High interview some students that were on the SAMOHI campus when the fights broke out. She stated that there have been one or so fights a month as long as she could remember, with the participants never punished, because it was politically incorrect to do so.

Also, the High School was holding a middle school orchestra competition that day, so all these younger students got caught in the middle of all the fighting.

She said that it was blacks versus hispanics, and that it escalated as students started calling their friends on cell phones, and outsiders started showing up to the campus.

Also stated students kept fighting until officers actually handcuffed one of the worst offenders. Another student said the school officers werent interfering, and teachers were trying to break up the fights, possibly due to officers worrying about getting sued over use-of-force.

A very sad state of affairs if you ask me.

I would guess that the population is close to 90% Latino now. I was a School Police officer, and Jefferson was my training school, right out of the academy. There is small group of Vietnamese students, too, if I recall correctly.

This site says it's 91.7% Latino last year. 7.9% Black.

They felt oppressed at having to go to a school named after a slave owner. If the school had been named after Malcolm X or Chavez, this would not have happened.

Great data. I have to laugh at 0.0% white. And (drum roll) Hispanics are 72.5% of the district...!

I'm a lifetime southern Californian, and I have never in my life seen such downgrading of neighborhoods as I have seen since the illegal alien invasion started, and it gets worse every year. As an example, have you seen Santa Ana lately (90% Mexican)? It's a ghetto now, and that's only ONE town of many I could mention, both in L.A. and Orange Counties.

Your statements about most of the Mexican and South American illegal aliens are true, and I agree that the black neighborhoods are much more well kept up and show pride of ownership.

I have friends who have rented apartments to illegal aliens, and when they move out (usually in the middle of the night, rent unpaid), the apartments are completely trashed because it turns out twenty people have been living there, and you wouldn't believe what they leave behind, it's too sick to mention. It's the same stuff they leave in the Arizona desert. They have no idea what personal hygiene means.

Many people seem to think that we should just shut up about the situation here in California and the other border states, and they call us racists because we refuse to put up with the mess the invaders leave behind them. Our hospitals are closing, our prisons are 33% illegal aliens, our schools are to the point where we'll now have to build new ones to educate the millions of anchor babies (while we're paying for their free breakfasts, lunches, food stamps and welfare, not forgetting assisted housing in some instances). Why shouldn't we be angry?

Yes, illegal aliens in general ARE a parasitic subculture, aided and abetted by our government who doesn't seem to give a damn, and who refuses to follow the laws they are elected to enforce. They don't have to put up with the mess or the expense, but they want us to.

BUILD THAT WALL!! VOTE AGAINST ALL OPEN BORDERS POLITICIAN/TRAITORS.

...it gets worse every year.

It's getting worse as we speak, j.g. And I agree with everything you say. We must fight. I am getting well acquainted with the legislative director of my congressional representative. Unfortunately, that is Diane Watson. But I AM a constituent. I am demanding a local town hall meeting. Remember those? What happened to them? Haha. The Jeff riots will look tame...
