I understand the bishop of my diocese (Monterey, Calif) is due for manadatory retirement this summer. Will Benedict select his successor, or was this already anticipated by John Paul II? I would not be disappointed if a more orthodox bishop was put in place here, although I suspect there would be wailing and grinding of teeth in the Santa Cruz County end of the diocese.
