WE HAVE A POPE!!!
I share your sentiments. Congratulations to all Catholics on the election of your new Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI. I pray that Pope Benedict will be as beneficial to the world (believers and others) as was Pope John Paul II.
Gosh Tom, thank you for your comments.
Very sweet and much appreciated.
EVERYTHING was "velly intellesting" to him. LOL.
That's right... what was his name? Artie somethingorother?
Tom, that is so very nice of you. Thank you very much, and blessings to you. What a nice and great thought, and your kind thoughfulness is very much appreciated.

Hi Beautiful,Love the picture of your thoughts,:)
Yes, I agree. They got a 78 year old who isn't going to be around long, and is conservative so there won't be any sudden changes of direction. That will be up to the next Pope, probably within six or seven years.

Absolutely!! Thank you!
The new Pope smiled and his prayer could be seen in his eyes. His name had been Ratzinger, a cardinal who symbolically died in this Conclave and was changed into the first Pope of the Third Millennium.
Jose Miguel Cejas, Ahora
19 April 2005
When the news about the column of white smoke at St. Peters was announced, a torrent of jubilant humanity poured into St. Peters Square and adjacent streets, with peoples faces fixed on the façade of the Basilica where a high relief sculpture shows the moment in which Jesus entrusts the keys of his Church to a poor fisherman.
This represents a first point of reflection. These people did not wait to know who the person chosen was before they expressed their joy. A Catholic does not need to know the specific biography of the person elected to rejoice. For the faithful the important thing is that the Church now has a Shepherd: the name, the person, the color of his skin, is less important. The decisive thing is that that man, whoever he might be, had become Peter, the new Vicar of Christ. His geographic origin, his age, are secondary features. It is the successor of the Prince of the Apostles that they awaited, that they are applauding.
Thus this jubilation, aside from being a manifestation of enthusiasm, has great meaning and theological depth. We dont know how long this Papacy will last: twenty or more years, as in the case of the last Pope? or thirty-three days, as in the case of his predecessor?
A new storm of applause breaks out. The big glass doors open out and the silhouette of Cardinal Medina appears, as a few drops of rain fall.
My dear brothers and sisters, he says in Italian, and then in Spanish, French, English and German. I announce to you a great joy Habemus papam!
A wave of joy spreads across St. Peters Square, the Avenue of Conciliation and the surrounding streets of Rome. There are people on all of the balconies and terraces that look out on the Square, and in front of television screens throughout the world. Few events of our global society have a dimension as global as this one.
. . . qui sibi nomen imposuit . . . Benedictus XVI
New applause in St. Peters Square. Benedict XVI. He has chosen the name of a Pope of peace, a Pope of
evangelization. My dear brothers and sisters, said Benedict XVI, after the great Pope John Paul II, the cardinals have chosen me, a humble worker in the Lords vineyard . . . I am consoled by the fact that our Lord makes use of inadequate instruments and I entrust myself to your prayers.
This was followed by an invocation to the Risen Christ and to our Lady. The great stole of embroidered gold on the brilliant red cape. The new Pope smiled and his prayer could be seen in his eyes. His name had been Ratzinger, a cardinal who symbolically died in this Conclave and was changed into the first Pope of the Third Millennium.
I love this man already.
In one of my first posts today, I remarked about the
kindness in his eyes and now to read the same is thrilling.
I already love him too!
I think I'll always miss JP II, but my heart is filled with love for Pope Benedict XVI.
Watching his first Mass as Pope, right now.
Will I ever wish sleep?
Who knows?
I'm so glad, and especially that there was such solidarity that he was elected by a large majority early.
What do you mean WE!
I like this new Pope ... and think he's gonna kick some ass.
He and JPII were birds of a feather.
Wow, a hit piece on the new pontiff out of the Ay Pee, 12 hours after the announcement of his papalcy. What a surprise.....
Long live Benedict XVI!
I've had both, and the latter is indeed nothing but tripe -- I knew I was in trouble with all the references to the Kennedies, and the glowing description of that anti Vietnam war priest (whose name I can't quite remember now. Benigan?).
However, I found the "Dummies" book (which is only 2 years old, BTW) to be a pretty good refresher for this once-lapsed Catholic. It's written by Fr. Trigilio from EWTN, and is dedicated to Mother Angelica. The "Idiots" book went in the trash; the "Dummies" guide sits next to my CCC.
Exactly! Cardinal Ratzinger (Pope Benedict XVI) said that he will pledge "to work to unify all Christians, reach out to other religions and continue implementing reforms from the Second Vatican Council as he outlined his goals and made clear his pontificate would closely follow the trajectory of his predecessor, Pope John Paul II."
"I too ... want to affirm with decisive willingness to follow in the commitment of carrying out the Second Vatican Council, in the wake of my predecessors and in faithful continuity with the 2,000-year-old tradition of the church," he said."

I love him too!
