But one disagreement. With the conservative make-up of the body of Cardinals and bishops right now and its expected trend, A Vatican III sometime a few years from now might actually be a good thing to bury some of those misguided policies that came out of Vatican II. Maybe we can get back some artistic churches and music and have a good push for evangelism.

Remember the scene from an episode of MASH where Radar reads a telegram or letter to Hot Lips and she goes nuts and destroys her tent? I'll bet McBrien and all the other lefty, commie, relativist heretics go on a month long bender. Let's hope they all hit the road.

"He's too much of a polarizing figure," McBrien said. "If he were elected, thousands upon thousands of Catholics in Europe and the United States would roll their eyes and retreat to the margins of the church."

The typical deluded rantings of a liberal.

BTW, your screen name, TexasGunLover...is there any other kind of "real" Texan! ;)

Absolutely not! :)

Good wishes and prayers to you and your family on this great day!

It is staggering how inept journalists have become in the mainstream left. I heard someone announce on NPR that they were expecting to hear the phrase "Habeo Papam" momentarily!
Would you or I be so careless as to look so foolish in front of ..what thousands..(hundreds?)...(ten?).

Does Ratzinger speak English?

Fluently. Also Italian, French and of course German. He's also in very good health, in spite of his age.

Just like all those Dems who said they would move to Canada if Bush won and didn't, I doubt liberal Roman Catholics will retreat from the Church either.

They've been out in droves today and everyday since Pope John Paul's death, drawing lines in the sand. They are hoping to drag others out with them. Actually, if McBrien is upset by the choice, that assures it is a good one.

Although I intended jest, some of the more obvious parallels from the article are:

strong decisive opinions, confidently delivered
uncomfortable with candidate Kerry's views on abortion
nativist tendencies with respect to his continent's culture
revulsion to totalitarianism: fascism and communism
local grassroots initiatives to help the impoverished
conservative views on the ethics of cloning
a healthy realism regarding press motivations

Cardinal Machiavelli has protested, saying the voting machines were rigged and too difficult to use. Machiavelli says the German guy stole the election.

No, they won't retreat entirely from the Church. But they are sure going to be on the run and made uncomfortable. A "Pope Ratzinger" is a pretty strong message from the College of Cardinals.
But most of the hardcore liberal Catholics are really already cut off from the Church. They cannot receive any sacramental graces no matter how many times they partake of a sacrilegious communion. They are only hardened more and more in their sin.

A lot of good it did them. They are last gaspers who will cry until the Great Day Of The Lord comes and realize their shenanigans were for naught.

I concur. Since McBrien has been at ND I have been enjoying their misfortunes in CF. The 2005 season will bring more heartache to SB.

On the contrary, I have won more than my share of lotteries, but have never messed with stock market or track. I did pick the correct Derby winner for many years running but nobody listened to me, and I already had plenty of money so I didn't bother to bet.

At the end of the day I figure God gave me only such talents as wouldn't get me into any trouble. For which I am thankful. Not everybody gets that mercy.

The American-Israeli Cooperative Enterprise, merely b/c it came up first on Google, but you can look in any good encyclopedia.

http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/History/Inquisition.html

It is family knowledge to my family --- replete with family letters and, eventually a Spanish Land Grant in what is now Texas, conditioned on leaving, that hangs above my grandmother's fireplace.

Google also revealed:

Now you attribute atrocity to Catholics in general... your first post said the Catholic CHURCH helped to throw your family in gas chambers. Which is it?
I'm sure for every act of bigotry you could find, an act of heroism on the part of a Catholic person could also be found.
Who do you hate more, the Catholic Church or Catholics in general? I guess your bigotry speaks volumes.

With respects to John Paul the Great, Benedict's English is better...just a touch of Bavarian accent. Very clear.
