WE HAVE A POPE!!!
Simple. The MSM is trying to cast doubts on Benedict XVI's "legitimacy"--or "gravitas," if you will. They'll conveniently forget to mention that he needed two-thirds plus one of the 115 Cardinals to get selected *at all*. So he needed 78 votes, and if their numbers are right (and I would love to know by what underhanded means they got them, if they are), he got 82 of 115 votes. Pretty good mandate in my book.

Chris Matthews should be most unhappy. The hamer is going to come down on heretics like him.
Amen to your last line from a Lutheran. Once I heard the Cardinal whose job it was to introduce him say the name Joseph, I knew it was Ratzinger. I magine my embarassment if it had been another Joseph.:) Anyway, I'm going back to see who first posted the papal name.
Yes, this is one blessed and joyfilled day.
Long Live Pope Benedict XVI.
Hammer...Hammer...Hammer
When I first saw Pope Benedictine on television for the first time, I thought he looks like he was meant to be Pope. It looked natural and pre-ordained.
Can't put my finger on it, don't know why, but that's just what this Prebyterian thought.
SHHHHHHH I was hoping to slip that by him. LOL
Specifically:
"In 1481 the Inquisition started in Spain and ultimately surpassed the medieval Inquisition, in both scope and intensity. Conversos (Secret Jews) and New Christians were targeted because of their close relations to the Jewish community, many of whom were Jews in all but their name. Fear of Jewish influence led Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand to write a petition to the Pope asking permission to start an Inquisition in Spain.
More than 13,000 Conversos were put on trial during the first 12 years of the Spanish Inquisition. Hoping to eliminate ties between the Jewish community and Conversos, the Jews of Spain were expelled in 1492."
Fortunately for me, they also discovered a new place to go that year.
As it is so often, the miracle is in the timing.
I had that same feeling. And a great sense of joy and calm came over me. The Holy Spirit is moving through all our Christian denominations on this auspicious day.
Well I've been predicting all along that it would be somebody who the media never mentioned as one of the possible candidates. So they took ME by surprise as well.
Don't tell anybody, but I actually tied with big_ol'freeper for the honor.:)
Let's hope his model is his nomen-predecessor. Benedict XV pitched the "modernist" campaign of Pius X over the side. And, della Chiesa was definitely a moderate, sandwiched between two ultra-conservatives.
We must pray for the new Pope. He has an awesome responsibility.
I just may need to switch from Guinness to Spatenbrau for one day in honor of Pope Benedict XVI!
Dang it!!!! I hate being away from my computer on days like this!!! I picked today to do a good deed and visit a friend of my grandma's at the nursing home. I could see the T.V. on Fox News behind her but just didn't have the heart to wheel her out of my way so I could go hear what was going on!!!! It's going to take me forever to go back and read all these posts. Think I'll skim threw the "it's white smoke...no it's black....bells, no bells" to get to the good stuff!
The thing I loved seeing was all the people running to the Square, seemingly coming out of nowhere. And then to watch that big bell move without being able to hear it. Tears were welling up. All I could do to concentrate on that sweet old lady instead of the T.V.
I'm so happy right now!!!!! I'm waiting for the high to wear off. Natural high, of course! ;0)
Chris lost it a few days ago. He went on a rant about how the President and conservatives should look out because the new pope would be gunning for them. LOL
Clearly Chris doesn't get faith even though he claims to be a Catholic. It isn't a Democrat vs Republican issue. Though clearly conservatives align more with people who hold true to the absolute Christian Faith.
It's possble he'll have words directed at the president and conservatives that aren't favorable over time, but he won't have that vendetta Chris thought he should have. Chris seemed to believe the role of Pope should be that of a PR mouth piece for Liberal Democrats.
It isn't about politics. It's about Chrisianity and holding firm to those Truths.
And I would say it's clear this Pope has issues with what is threatening Christianity. Humanism. Secularism. Athesism. Liberalism. All of which Chris supports.
How is he taking it, btw?
At over 800 pages, it is decidedly not "for Dummies," but it is comprehensive and exact. And the new Pope was the president of the commission that, under John Paul, put together the Catechism of the Catholic Church
Generations of American Catholics learned in Question and Answer format from The Baltimore Catechism

I always forget about ewtn, will turn it on.
Thanks, I will order it.. And there is a Catholic Doctrine for Dummies!!!! Imagine that. Written for me.
BTW, My earlier posts refered to Pope Benedictine....I know that is wrong. It is Benedict. There was a St Benedictine High School where I grew up and so it keeps coming out of my brain and onto the keyboard....
I didn't watch the tv. As usual I was on FR first :-) Actually a freeper called me and let me know the news.
