I'm a sad nearly-elected Pope. Nice work, though - you took the liberal heat off of Ratzinger at *just* the right moment. I think that should rate a dozen or so "indulgences", just be sure not to spend 'em all in the same place.

I thought after such a long reign for JP II, they wanted the next Pope to be a continuation, rather than a big change. I suspect the next Pope will be younger. But JP II's shoes are so big to fill, that to try to do it right away may not be the best thing.

Likewise. But I trust that this is all playing out according to God's plan.

What do I win for guessing Benedict on "Name That Pope" here?An extra special blessing? ;)

"Benedict: of the olive. Malachy was right...again" Ok, I still don't get how Benedict has anything to do with olives. Explain, please.

I haven't seen them [DU] this angry since November.
Who did they expect to be elected, Teresa Heinz Kerry?
To: Quilla
I'm soooo ashamed!!! HA!
Well said, my brother.

Why do they choose such old Pope's? His health will become an issue before too long then they'll have to go through the process again.

I heard somewhere that certain cardinals were not pleased that Pope John Paul II lasted so long; so speculation was that the next Pope would be older. For some reason they don't like Popes to be around so long that they "make their mark." Seems silly to me. Kinda reminds me of the old Soviet premiers -- for a while there they were electing guys with one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel.

>>I'm a little sad - I really was hoping for Cardinal Arinze. But Cardinal Ratzinger will certainly be a fine Pope and continue the work of John Paul II. God Bless him and God Bless the Church.<<
Me too!
God Bless our new Pope!

Again, just depends on what prophecies you follow, but many say the Eagle talked about in some Biblical prophecies is the U.S.A. I will have to talk to a fellow FRiend and make sure I get that right before posting it.

Thanks. I'll check later. I see no reason to get ticked off right now.Good thinking - I checked. Just to give you an idea of what's on that thread, look for the Rat/MSM talking points to be "The Pope is a Nazi!"

Al Gore says he's confident that, when all the votes are counted, he'll be declared Pope. Hey! Gore did invent the Papacy.
