Lugar also took the unusual step of releasing his comments on why he would vote for Bolton today (instead of waiting until the committee meets tomorrow). Portions of those comments were reported.

Anyone have a link to his comments?

A quick check turned up this article from the Guardian:

Showdown Vote for U.N. Nominee Bolton

April 18, 2005

excerpt:

``I do not think the concerns raised about Secretary Bolton warrant our rejection of the president's selection for his own representative to the U.N.,'' Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Sen. Richard Lugar, R-Ind., said in a statement prepared for Tuesday's hearing.

The language is the usual milquetoast Senate speak, but I do think his move (which Cameron said was unusual) of releasing his statement a day early delivers its own message.
