FYI..just now on Special REport..Carl Cameron states flatly that Bolton will be confirmed tomorrow..Lugar will force the vote, and NO GOP senators will vote against him, despite attempts to suggest that Hagel will vote against.
The next thing to watch is the SENATE JUDICARY COMMITTE on THUR. Sen. KYL was saying today on the floor that the dems may not even show up!
Judiciary Committee rules...
http://judiciary.senate.gov/committee_rules.cfm
Kind of reminds me of the congress critters in Texas when they left the state to avoid voting
Oh please please please let this happen
I agree the re-election bunch were between a rock and a hard place - and the pres wannabees were in the same corner. I just wasn't sure what Hagel would do once it was determined that one of his staff was a former Bolton subordinate and might have some made-up horror story to tell.
I'm assuming Hagel talked to his staff member and it wasn't serious enough to bring him before the committee. When that person was not scheduled to appear .. I began to believe Chaffee and Hagel would vote for Bolton.
But .. then there was this thread that the WH is upset because Bolton might not be confirmed - I was beside myself. I was also upset at Lugar because he kept allowing the dems to postpone the committee vote, and I remembered on the first day of the hearings, here was Dodd falling all over himself praising Lugar for his opening statement - and there sat Lugar grinning - I just wanted to smack him.
Okay - You can have your "I told ya so".
Good news .
Several days ago, after the second day of Mr. Bolton's testimony there was a news item about the possibility that one of his in-house detractors from the DOS had some serious credibility problems given his or her constant complaints about other supervisors...do you happen to remember that or could you point me toward that piece...it was just a blurb and I've not seen it again in the press.
Thanks.
Betcha his first name starts with a G & he comes from Texas.
Nebraska is not that far from South Dakota.
I hope it was the long strong arm from Texas.
His pollster.
Wow. A Senator does something to impress me. Thank you Senator Lugar.
As to Hagel, my opinion of him stands. He needs to be defeated by a conservative Republican in the '06 Republican primary.
What about Chafee?? He is a RINO no doubt. I'm worried more about him than Hagel. This is good news, if it ends up this way. Thinking ahead a bit, how likely is it that Steve Lahaffy(I think that's his name) will run against Chafee in a primary? Because with Linc voting for Bolton, I think we have a better chance of having him primaried out for a real conservative Republican.
LOL!
Didn't think of that.
I did hear today that a woman who complained turns out to run a "Mothers Against Bush" outfit in Texas and is a self-proclaimed democrat (not that there's anything wrong with that) who appeared on Air America to claim Bolton would get testy and it was "creepy".
If I find an article I'll link it here.
Hagel was trying to do like he always does..just get pub..but he got in line as usual...tomorrow is a big day for us all!!
Senate Panel Readies for Bolton Vote
excerpts:
Chairman Richard Lugar of Indiana took the unusual step on Monday of releasing his statement in support of Bolton one day early. In it, he said that his panel has fully vetted allegations that disputes over weapons of mass destruction programs may have led Bolton to bully government specialists with whom he disagreed.

Biden said he wants to review a new charge that Bolton allegedly harassed a woman named Melody Townsel 11 years ago when Bolton was in the private sector and Townsel was a U.S. government humanitarian aid subcontractor. Townsel told her story last week on Air America, the liberal talk radio network.
"He was not just very difficult to deal with, but abusive, confrontational and ended up kind of chugging some things in a meeting and pounding on hotel doors and trotting across hotel lobbies to get to me, and it was just uncomfortable and kind of creepy," Townsel said.
(me rolling my eyes)
Bolton's backers deny the charge, and no one has surfaced to corroborate it. Townsel is a self-described liberal Democrat and organizer of a Dallas chapter of Mothers Opposing Bush.
(I was wrong, the group is Opposing Bush so they have a nifty acronym of MOB instead of MAB if they had gone with "Against")
Lugar's statement said Bolton has answered all relevant questions about his conduct.

(me rolling my eyes)
Ha! Me too, again.
Bolton's backers deny the charge, and no one has surfaced to corroborate it. Townsel is a self-described liberal Democrat and organizer of a Dallas chapter of Mothers Opposing Bush.
Thanks. That is exactly the crap I was looking for. I have some background on that group that I'll hunt up and post asap. Thanks again.
Wow, so the GOP finally found something to be united on and it's actually the right choice. Mark this date on your calendar, you'll see this again during the next blue moon.
awww, I was hoping Bush would have a chance to pull the nomination and then nominate Ted Nugent, citizen at large to the post. If nothing else the hearings would be a friggin' hoot!
Bolton is one tough sucker! Good News!
