There's no question that PRC also STEALS whatever they need to fill that market's needs, e.g., small engines, automobiles, etc.
Not true in all cases -- for instance, Intel is the largest chip seller in China for PCs and AMD is close behind. Chinese cars and bikes are, as you correctly pointed out, mostly cheap knock-offs. But they ARE cheap and have no quality, so many consumers still buy non-Chinese products because non-Chinese products give a better value for money -- even if they are more expensive. Note: I said non-Chinese, not American as I think GM, Ford etc. currently lag behind in quality and value-for-money as compared to the Japanese, Germans and now even against Hyundai and Renault.
However, since China has joined the WTO it HAS to follow some standards -- so we've got them by the uhm, indelicates and can FORCE them to maintain copyright standards.

I urge you to read the pro-China-trade testimony referenced above in #307.
Getting the Chi-coms to comply with the WTO is a serious problem, as well as getting them to stop stealing intellectual property.
They are the abusive husbands and western businessmen are the battered wives going back for more and more.
The Chi-coms know Lenin very well, they know that they are dealing with useful idiots, IMO. I don't think that they are worried too much about minor details.
