(TERRE HAUTE, Ind.) -- A man who claimed doctors "locked" his brain in a federal computer has been locked in the Vigo County Jail on a charge of threatening a physician.
Kriss L. Rehmel, 38, of Coalmont, was accused of sending letters to several people, including President Bush, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels, asking them to unlock his brain, which he believes has been controlled by a computer since Sept. 11, 2001, said Vigo County Sheriff Jon Marvel.
The letters claimed Dr. Michael Rader of Terre Haute was to blame. The writer said that he would "blow (Rader's) head off," Marvel said.
Rehmel was charged with felony intimidation. He appeared Monday in Vigo County Superior Court where a judge set his bail at $200,000.
Vigo County Sheriff's Department Lt. Tim Gossett arrested Rehmel on a warrant last week in Monroe County, where he had been ordered to immediate detention for 72 hours in Bloomington Hospital.
The first of the series of typed letters was received on or about March 4 by officials at the Vigo County facility of Pfizer Inc., where Rehmel formerly worked, Gossett said.
Police said Rehmel was apparently angry over back surgery he had while working for Pfizer.
Rader, Pfizer's corporate doctor, suggested Rehmel have the surgery, Marvel said.
According to the letters, Rehmel believed doctors "locked" his brain into a computer "to keep him mentally and physically controlled" and "tortured" by the computer, said Marvel.
A Secret Service agent was in Terre Haute on Monday to interview Rehmel, Gossett said.
Marvel said his department was taking the threats seriously. "This is the type of person we just can't ignore," he said.
Al Gore has made the same claim for years.
Rehmel believed doctors "locked" his brain into a computer ...
Can't be fatal. My 17 YO's brain is locked into a 1998 Midnight Blue Chevy S-10...
"This is the type of person we just can't ignore," No, you can't. He's obviously psychotic. He needs to go to Happy Acres, and stay there for a long time. |
Any relation to Captain Marvel, you think?
These many articles in which the variuos police spokesmen or officials continually make assinine statements to the media, indicates that instead of PC training, they are in need of "how not to be baited into saying something stupid to a ditzy reporter, or reporterette" classes.
I've been a slave to the computer for more than a decade, but I've not had my brain locked up by one ... yet.
I'd be upset too. His brain should have been locked up in state or local computer.
Hey Kriss...join the club ;-)
My 18 year old boys brains are are locked onto a short haired brunette 17 year old Fort Worth girl that wears little white tank tops.
"...but I've not had my brain locked up by one ... yet."
Thank you for assuring us all of that. [Sigh in relief.]

Yes, my brain seems to be missing at times. It just wanders off.
I guess you could say I have 'free range brains'.
'free range brains'
Where the deer and the antelope play.
And that's a bad thing ??
I think he was confused. He should have asked them to GIVE him a brain.
His claim is valid. The Religious Right has mastered the art and science of locking people's brains into Jerry Falwell's PDA. How else do you explain recent political results?

'free range brains'
Where the deer and the antelope play.
Where they trample my thoughts
When I visit the Zots
And my sanity slips each day!
[Just messing around. I am QUITE SANE. REALLY! And I don't say it enough times!]

And hip-hugging Aeropostle's...Yeh, that too. My kid has the networking thingie figgered out. Somehow involves the use of a cell phone. Way too complicated for me. : )
"Bush STOLE our brains! He played on OUR FEARS!"
