My take on it is that he will turn against Israel and attack that country. He will appear to be pro-Israel, appear to come in peace, etc etc, but make zero mistake, the final leader will invade the "beautiful land." Yes, the beast will have to have a false prophet (his own personal propaganda minister), but I do not see that the Word states that they are of Israeli extraction.

Regardless, the conquering King will try to destroy Israel after having appeared, deceptively, to be a man of peace. Note that on many, many occasions, Israel has had many different Kings and countries Hell bent on destroying it. This pattern is nothing new whatsoever, and, from time to time, reappears in different forms in different historical periods. The End, however, will be such a cataclysmic event, that even the very stars could be shaken. The sky will be darkened, etc. Get a Strong's Exhaustive Concordance and start getting a large stack of post-it notes ready.... "With relentless aggression..."

There is a shocking indictment of this guy which scares the daylights out of anyone with High political aspirations. Basically, he destroyed his country and his people and becomes worm food. (scary though...) "Is this the man" that caused the nations to shake?? (paraphrase) I am passing over chapters and verses in this broad overview, but references can be provided. Get a Strong's Exhaustive and a good, faithful translation of the Bible.....

On a different, unrelated, non-political and non-military, non-conquering note, those of Jewish faith that have clearly rejected Jesus as Messiah are STILL looking for Messiah. If anyone bears a claim to "Messiahship" who is not Jesus, some (not all) MAY potentially fall for a false messiah, a false "Christ." This potential mis-placed faith, this religious danger, exists quite apart from the Beast that crawls out of the sea of mankind who is given dominion and power over the earth. The Good News is that those of Jewish faith who have still not found Messiah, STILL have the chance to make an informed, and educated decision that Jesus is in fact Messiah, based upon the Old Testament texts as clearly revealed by the life and work of Jesus as narrated by the New Testament (which is LOADED with references to the O.T.).

Regarding the "beast"", the "man of sin", the final leader [in a long line of bad leaders and powerful military governments] who would like to rule the Earth, it would make sense for the counterfeit Christ to at least appear to be a man of peace, and what greatest outward (sic) symbol of that would be than to appear to be offering "peace" (sic) to the Middle east and to Israel? Rebuilding the Temple would outwardly appear to be a “nice” gesture. I will not fill in the blasphemous blank after that…

Think about it. The Middle East is key as is also Israel in carefully evaluating the “peace” proposals of the man of sin.

How long will his [conquering] "royal" banner remain on Mount Zion???? ... And there he shall fall with no one to help him ...

How many people for temporal sake will accept the Mark, bow down and worship him? Believe it or not, most people think it's "no big deal" to accept a mark that involves buying and selling and even worshipping man.

Heck, many people worship their cars, bank accounts, etc. There is a reason why idolatry is prohibited and this will be a little more "clear" in the End when it comes to the rule and reign of the Bad Guy.

We all have a choice to make. Is Jesus Christ the ONLY LORD and Savior? Yes or no.

The Counterfeit will make counter claims, of course. We know that in the End, Right will prevail, not to worry.

Well since we're Biblically "thinking out loud", what does this say for Bush's Road-map for peace, the whole neocon idea that the road to Baghdad runs to Jerusalem, establishing democracy in the greater Middle East in order to bring peace with Israel, etc.? Biblically speaking, that would be furthering the wrong agenda as we know what this will lead to.

Does that mean that a certain eschatalogical view of Scripture should keep us from working for peace on behalf of Israel? Here's a good litmus test: Any peace that involves Israel sacrificing territory is a pseudo-peace and is probably furthering the agenda of the coming Antichrist.
