The image comes from Mars Odyssey spacecraft, and the image shows the very famous region of Mars called Cydonia. This image was taken on May 5th of 2004, but just released to public viewing on April of 2005.
Just click the Thumbnail image to enlarge Cydonia, and you will see the 1976-77 Viking 1 & 2 so-call Face.
This image is better than Viking 1 and 2 in some ways.

The so-called "pyramid" can also been clearly seen (near-bottom left of the photo).
This is just awesome, to the right of it you can actually
see the workers huts, and to think no one knows how they
moved those giant stones...

What about the large "rectangular" feature that shows the the right that is cut in half? it is as interesting an the "face".

"and to think no one knows how they moved those giant stones..."
I'm most curious about how they made the large circular pits all over the place.

The gravity on Mars is only 38% of Earth's gravity. Those stones are really easy to lift there.
