The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

We now know more about an alleged attack that triggered an increased national threat level last summer.

That's when U.S. officials said they had uncovered a plot targeting financial institutions. The plot involved bombs, banks and British nationals.

The detail was startling, the targets enormous. They included financial buildings in Washington, New York and New Jersey.

t is no surprise their destination was Mexico City. U.S. officials fear that Latin America, and more particularly Mexico — with its porous U.S. border — may become a staging ground for Al Qaeda, report Hosenball and Hirsh.

What will it take to take our politicians to "get real" about this? A nuke in their neighborhood staged in Mexico just might be the incentive to wake them up, but it might be too late by the time they "get it together, Al Qaeda might blow us up and use those same porous borders to slip back." The Minutemen are heros in my book and IMHO deserve great credit for doing a job well done and highly supported by a majority of the American public.

MADERA, Calif. - Narcotics officers searching the home of an alleged methamphetamine dealer found 80 undocumented Mexican immigrants, police said.

The immigrants were packed into the 1,500-square-foot home of Jose Esparza, 38, police said. Officers were searching Esparza's house Friday after arresting him for allegedly trying to sell methamphetamine to an undercover officer.

Neither Castro nor Chavez could hold on to power without the financial and military backing of Russia and China. Moscow considers Havana its "key" partner in Latin America, and China regards Cuba to be one of its closest allies.

During Castro's 2003 trip to China, Prime Minister Wen Jiabao declared that the Chinese people "profoundly admire" Castro for his defiance against the U.S. during what is described as a "difficult time of change in the world's balance of forces."

Both Moscow and Beijing are ready to ensure continuation of the present Cuban regime following the long-anticipated death of Castro.

The value of Cuba to Russia and China is not merely as one of several Latin American friends, but Havana is also a very significant intelligence asset.

Cuba's sophisticated, well-trained intelligence services carry on a continuing espionage war against the U.S., with information gained in its spy efforts having great value to Moscow and Beijing.

U.S. counterintelligence efforts have had some success against Cuba's concerted spying. The espionage convictions which followed gave the public an unusual view of the Cuba's intelligence threat against the United States. Unfortunately, the media usually gives little publicity to those convictions."

FOCUSED ON A GOAL

Seems lately more than one incident has occurred because those doing the guarding are lackadaisical about doing their jobs thoroughly (day prior to royal wedding in England comes to mind). All it will take is ONE TIME BY ONE PERSON to cause death and destruction in the restricted area of the terrorist's choice.
