The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

We now know more about an alleged attack that triggered an increased national threat level last summer.

That's when U.S. officials said they had uncovered a plot targeting financial institutions. The plot involved bombs, banks and British nationals.

The detail was startling, the targets enormous. They included financial buildings in Washington, New York and New Jersey.

9/11 hijackers used NJ college computer to buy plane tickets

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Two of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist hijackers used a public-access computer at a New Jersey state college library to buy tickets for the plane they helped hijack and crash into the Pentagon, a federal prosecutor said.

Ken Wainstein, the United States attorney for the District of Columbia, made the revelation Thursday during a congressional hearing in which the Bush administration pushed for renewal of provisions of the Patriot Act that make it easier for investigators to obtain library and other records.

"Investigators tracing the activities of the hijackers determined that, on four occasions in August of 2001, individuals using Internet accounts registered to Nawaf Alhamzi and Khalid Almihdhar — 9/11 hijackers — used public access computers in the library of a state college in New Jersey," Wainstein testified before a House Judiciary subcommittee.

"The computers in the library were used to review and order airline tickets in an Internet travel reservations site," he said.

On Aug. 30, 2001, someone using Alhamzi's account logged on to a computer at the school to check on travel reservations for Sept. 11, 2001, that had already been made, he added.

Wainstein did not identify the college, but an official with William Paterson University in Wayne said that shortly after the attacks, investigators seized several public-access computers from the college's library.

"The FBI, in furtherance of their investigation into 9/11, did take a number of our public access computers," Stuart Goldstein, the college's assistant vice president for institutional advancement, said Friday. "The FBI never informed us as to what they found or didn't find."

William Paterson University is the closest state college to where the hijackers were living just before the attacks.

Justice Department spokesman Kevin Madden said the testimony shows how important the library provision of the Patriot Act is to national security.

"The more people learn about the Patriot Act, the more they learn that it is designed to protect them from harm and from terrorist acts," he said.

Madden said he did not know if libraries at other New Jersey colleges were searched after the attacks.

Alhamzi and Almihdhar were two of the five hijackers who helped seize American Airlines Flight 77, which took off from Dulles International Airport outside Washington, D.C., and crashed into the Pentagon.

They were among a group of as may as six of the Sept. 11 hijackers who lived in Paterson shortly before the attacks. Two others, Hani Hanjour, who would pilot the doomed plane, and Majed Moqed, bought their tickets from a Totowa travel agency, paying with a wad of cash after their debit card was rejected less than two weeks before the attacks.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman F. James Sensenbrenner Jr., R-Wis., said the testimony highlights the need to renew provisions of the Patriot Act that enable the quick retrieval of library information by authorities.

"We put Americans' lives at risk if we foolishly provide sanctuaries — even in our public libraries — for terrorists to operate," he said.

One has to admit that the terrorists do know how to beat
our 'system', they use it to the fullest.

I don't know how a tighter watch would have stopped them
buying the tickets, as who knew why they needed them?

PAKISTANI CHRISTIAN BEATEN ALMOST TO DEATH BECAUSE MUSLIM BOSS WAS KIND TO HIM

PAKISTAN (ANS) -- A Pakistani Christian who was shown kindness by his Muslim employer has been attacked and beaten by a gang of Muslims.

Shahbaz Masih was attacked by a group of seven or eight Muslims from his village on April 23 and left for dead, with both legs broken, says a report from the Barnabas Fund.

In an e-mail report from Barnabas Fund, the Christian human rights organization says Masih's assailants are believed to be jealous of any success within the Christian community, and apparently singled him out because he was favorably treated by his Muslim boss.

Shahbaz Masih lives in a predominantly Muslim village called Chak No. 2 Mandi Baha-Uddin, south of the Pakistani capital Islamabad.

Barnabas Fund says there are some 20-25 Christian families in the village who mostly work as agricultural laborers for Muslim landowners. Shahbaz, a young man in his twenties, was a tractor driver for Mir Hussein, who treated him kindly, apparently because he was an honest and hard worker.

The Barnabas Fund report continues: "This kindness from a Muslim to a Christian caused resentment amongst the Muslim group who attacked Shahbaz last Saturday, reports a local church leader, who adds the group were also angered by two Christians doing well in their studies at school and university recently. According to one report the group had tried to force Shahbaz to convert to Islam. He is now in a critical condition in hospital."

According to Barnabas Fund, many Muslims in Pakistan regard Christians as second-class citizens, “unclean,” and despicable. There are approximately three million Christians in Pakistan, about 2 percent of the population.

Barnabas Fund works to support Christian communities mainly, but not exclusively, in the Islamic world where they are facing poverty and persecution.

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "TOKYO (Reuters) - The United States has warned the International Atomic Energy Agency that North Korea has been preparing to carry out an underground nuclear test since March and could go ahead as early as June, Kyodo news agency said on Saturday.

The report, which quoted diplomatic sources in Vienna, came a day after the chief U.S. negotiator to stalled talks on Pyongyang's nuclear ambitions said Washington believed North Korea might be trying to harvest material for a nuclear bomb from a shut-down reactor.

According to the sources, who said the information was obtained by satellite photos and from within North Korea, Pyongyang was preparing to test a small-scale plutonium device.

The United States had called on China to urge North Korea to halt its preparations, but there were no signs that Beijing had done so, the sources said.

Japanese officials were unavailable for comment."

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "KOLKATA (Calcutta): A city court on Wednesday handed out death penalty to Dubai-based underworld don Aftab Ansari and six others for the attack outside the American Center here that left five policemen dead five years ago.

The acting chief judge of the civil and sessions court, Basudeb Majumdar, on Tuesday found the group of seven — Ansari, Rehan Alam, Adil Hassan, Hasrat Alam, Shakil Akhtar, Musharat Hussain and Jamaluddin Nasser — guilty of using banned and sophisticated arms to kill. This is a crime under Section 27 (C) of the Arms Act and can only draw the death sentence. Public prosecutor Nabakumar Ghosh said another charge — sedition — almost always fetched capital punishment."

THE LAURIE ROTH SHOW

Robert Spencer brought up on this show that 200 airbags were discovered in the rear of a grocery store in Brooklyn along with posters of OBL and beheadings. The airbags are packed with explosives than can be used in terrorism.

Robert was hilarious with reports at commercial breaks of Laurie being in Florida, California, Japan, Washington, London, etc. etc. etc. on her vacation (smiling).
