This afternoon in a preview for tonight's Hardball on MSNBC at 7 EDT, Arizona Senator John McCain told host Chris Matthews that he will vote with the Democrats against exercising the so-called "nuclear option" to prevent the Democrats from using a filibuster stopping a floor vote on judicial nominees.
McCain said that he wanted to remind Republicans that some day there would be a "liberal president and a Democrat-controlled senate" and there would be no way for Republicans to stop the appointment of liberal judges as his reason for how he will vote.

doesn't come as a surprise at all...dissapointing yes, surprisng no. This is not a "man the lifeboat" moment...rather, it's a moment to put pressure on the other GOPers and to show McCain he's irrelevant.
I truly despise him.
McCain is a Senator first, a Republican second.
He'd rather be nobility.
I'm sure Hagel's security is a LOT less than McCain's...He'd be taking a HUGE risk in Nebraska to do this. Remember, Specter almost lost in PA to Toomey. Don't think Hagel didn't notice that.
Anyone who can, please correct me if I am in error, but my understanding is: "A Filibuster is unlimited debate, meant to forestall or delay a vote for closure, so as to prevent a floor vote on a bill, or legislation."
There has never been such a tradition for judicial appointees. They have always been voted, up or down, via a simple majority.
The Democrats changed the Senate rules, violating the spirit of the Constitution, to require a 60 vote majority to end debate on a presidential judicial appointment. This is not a Filibuster, it is a Senate rule change. There is NOTHING either traditional, constitutional, or sacred about this contrived and unconstitutional rule change.
Returning the vote to a simple majority is not only a return to tradition, it restores honesty to the process, which was lost when the rule change was made.
If McCain does not understand this rather simple distinction, and accepts that obvious fraud of the stated Democrat partisan position, then he is either a fool, or endorses their agenda of obstruction and inaction in the Senate. All this during a time of war and with the added burden of a rogue judiciary upon our Republican form of government. McCain should resign in disgrace.
thanks for the information, twisted and bizarre indeed
I think it is healthier, let the other guys rant, the Dems are so good at making fools of themselves already, then move to close the debate, simple really
McInsane has been granted FAR more recognition and compensation than his performance merits....
He's been a whiney assed, camera crazy, ambitious back stabbing little media whore for decades....
The ONLY times he supports the President's agenda - is when it is impossible to justify stabbing him in the back.
Arizona really owes the nation some action on this boring, but dangerous a$$hole.
Semper Fi
yeah.....and take that disgusting little wimp Chaffee with him
I think McCain will do almost anything to keep his name in the news. He loves the limelight. If you can't beat 'em, make their life miserable. Can you imagine if McCain had gone with Kerry and they would have won? Then throw in Theresa. It would have been an no holds barred disaster.
To those that think RINO(s) do not hurt the party......I rest my case.
have you ever written screenplays for horror movies ?..lol
"McCain said that he wanted to remind Republicans that some day there would be a "liberal president and a Democrat-controlled senate"
Seems all the more reason to appoint Conservative judges now while you have the majority, eh?
Yeah, as though I'm surprised.
Would someone tell me AGAIN why we're supposed to vote for this man to save the Planet from Hillary? I won't do it.
Hopefully Frist can find 50 Repubs to agree to MAKE the Dems have a real filibuster...
getting strict constructionist judges on the federal bench is infinitely more important than letting the RATS look like idiots.
He must have had a Fristoplasty
John Warner is the one to watch. I think he'll come around.
he needed one
