Some people equate smart with being socially inept.
Some smart people are nerds, and some nerds are smart, but not all smart people are nerds, and not all nerds are smart.
The point is that if smart people are smart enough to NOT be nerds, they can do as well or better than any other guy.

I can see how some adolescents might do that, since "nice" is a euphemism for socially unassertive or naive. My impression is that in the long run the real "nice guys" end up with the good women.

He's right, you have to hit their emotions. I had a girl fall in love with me because I saw her step in some buble gum and took the shoe from her hand and peeled it off with a piece of a paper.
My wife and I were impressed by each other's intellects. I guess if she insisted I was smarter, I wouldn't object too hard, but I wouldn't be certain she was right, either. We each knew many things the other didn't, which meant there was a lot we could talk about.

Each "reason" is a new insult. It sounds like the author never met a single smart guy.

Maybe you are more self conscious when you are sober, and drinking made you more relaxed.
But whatever you do, don't start drinking again.
Just be more relaxed, while sober and approach with a "doesn't matter" attitude and you'll be just fine.
