Queen Elizabeth II delivered some extraordinary wedding day snubs to Prince Charles and his bride Camilla Parker Bowles yesterday. Her gloomy Majesty barely cracked a smile throughout the day. She never spoke to her new daughter in law and wouldn't even look at her.
At one point, the Queen frostily turned her back on Camilla during the blessing of the couples marriage.
But the worst moments for the new Duchess of Cornwall came when it was time to take the traditional family photos on the steps of St. George's Chapel. Royal aides had expected the Queen and Prince Phillp to spend at least five minutes posing with the newlyweds.
But the queen barely managed to spare 52 seconds to stand alongside the happy couple. She did not say a word to Camilla, now the country's second highest ranking royal, but spoke to her son.
Queen: 'That all went rather well.' Charles: 'Yes.' Queen: 'We are leaving now.' Charles: 'Oh, I really want a picture of us all.'
The Queen then moved quickly to stand further away from her new daughter in law, stepping around her to stand beside Charles. It was a day of astonishing put downs for Camilla, 57, delivered by her mother in law.
One observer told us: 'If the Queen had been any quicker, the pictures would have to been done on a speed camera. She looked grumpy and frosty to the bitter end.'
There were mutterings among the female guests as the Queen broke the golden rule of weddings--upstaging the bride by wearing white. Her off white outfit was almost exactly the same color Camilla had chosen for her civil wedding.
One guest said: 'She didn't join in on any of the prayers or hymms, she looked miserable.' Then, as the congregation sang 'Love Divine,' she lowered her order of service and turned her back on Camilla--even Prince Phillip was forced to shoot her a look!
One family friend told us: 'It was tough on Camilla. It wouldn't have killed the Queen to say well done. Nobody expected her to throw her arms around the woman but she was very cold to her.'
Later, things appeared to have warmed as the Queen unexpectedly made a speech at the reception--but later than cracked a joke at Camilla's expense, appearing to compare her to a horse.
To laughter from the guests in the State Apartments, she told the newlyweds, 'Welcome to the winners enclosure!' Seconds earlier, she had told the crowd that she had an important annoucement to make and then declared who won the Grand National Horse Race.
And you think because Diana was beautiful that made her a saint? Why do you think Camilla is a dog? Which I don't agree with by the way since we have a beautiful dog. Anyway, Camilla is a very cute lady. She is more appropriate for Charles anyway. They look like they belong together. Charles and Diana's fairy tale wedding was just that...a Fairy tale..nothing more. It was bound to end badly because it didn't begin in earnest. Sad but true.
"It looked like an empty bird's nest."
I thought she had a porcupine nested in her hair.
Wonder if it was her idea to "get rid" of her ?
Queen Elizabeth looks like about as much fun as a train wreck and Charles looks as exciting as a rock.
If she was going to have to witness this spectacle live, the least she could do was deny them the royal carriage and trappings.
note to self: cross street if the above cretin approaches.
Success is the best revenge and she was successful in getting the man she wanted. The "art" of revenge can also be achieved by looking better at the class reunion than the homecoming queen or the wife of the guy who dropped you just before the prom during your senior year. If she really wants to get back at the media, she could start by looking better than her adversaries.
Nonsense. I blame both Camilla AND Charles.
We had William the Conqueror and now we have Charles the Unlucky. I want to believe he is bright, but it seems, though he's a nice enough guy, he's always in some kind of fix, some public embarrassment he can't work his way out.
I like the Royals, but sometimes they make liking them a real chore. For example, when he couldn't bring himself to say on TV that he loved his fiancee Diana. How much in the way fo brains does it take to anticipate that question in the week your engagement is announced?
Not exactly a ringing endorsement, she couldn't even say her name!
I think Carmilla will have the last laugh on QE2. Some day Charles will be King, and when that day arrives Carmilla will be Queen. I know she said she will not take the title (but instead be be referred to as some sort of 'consort'). But she will be queen.
That is what is probably irking the queen like a Honduran fireant! Carmilla actually SITTING on the THRONE that she (the Queen) currently sits in. That has to be making her steam like heck.
LOL.
And Carmilla knows, and revels, in this. She is quite possibly among the most long-term oriented conniving people on Earth. I know she has affection for Charles, but who knows? The past of the British monarchy is rife with people who would have long-term stratagems meant to bring them as close to the throne as possible, and it is a fact that Carmilla is a 'history' buff (eg the way she started her romance with Charles, by reminding him that her great granny was the mistress to his great grandpa is a classic).
But anyways, i wish Carmilla the best. Whether it is true love on her part, or great affection mixed with great ambition, whatever it is it was well played. Over several decades. And at the very least she deserves applause.
And i will applaud her, particularly when the day comes when she actually sits on the throne reserved for the Queen of England and Monarch of the British Commonwealth. Even though she refuses to be called queen, when that day comes she will be sitting on the throne reserved for the queen.
Well played.
The only thing the Queen could hope to do is live as long as her mom. That way there would be a chance that Prince William would become king instead of Charles. I would almost bet that the queen is being very meticulous when it comes to her diet and healthy living. If she can help it she would prefer William to be king and not Charles, and a way to do so is to live for so long than Charles too old, and William ripe, to be king.
Otherwise Carmilla sits on her throne! Well played (whether it out of love, or ambition, well played).
