HONG KONG (AP) -- A strong earthquake hit Sunday near the Indonesian island of Sumatra, Hong Kong seismologists said. The 6.8-magnitude tremor's epicenter was about 74 miles southwest of Padang, a city in western Sumatra, the Hong Kong Observatory said. The quake was recorded at 6:35 a.m. EDT, it said.
Sumatra was devastated by the Dec. 26 tsunami and earthquake that killed nearly 183,000 people in 11 countries and left another 129,000 missing.
Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim nation, was the hardest hit, with at least 126,000 people killed and more than 500,000 left homeless, mostly in Aceh province on Sumatra.

If I read
this link correctly, in the last hour or so there's been a 6.8, a 5.8, and 6.3 in Sumatra. Yikes.

SINGAPORE (Reuters) - An earthquake of magnitude 6.7 rattled parts of Indonesia on Sunday and was even felt in neighboring Singapore.
The United States Geological Survey Web Site (http:/earthquake.usgs.gov/recenteqsww/Quakes/at00000321.htm) said the quake, which struck at 1729 local time (6:29 a.m. EDT) was "strong" and located in the Indonesia's Kepulauan Mentawai region.
Singapore's Channel News Asia said residents of high rise apartments in the city state reported feeling their buildings swaying.

Good grief! What I don't understand is we'll get told they are "aftershocks".

Well, if they are within a certain number of km from the big rupture, I think that's what makes them aftershocks. Scary for the inhabitants either way, though. Wow.

The interesting fact about this map is the parallel orientation of the green land masses. It would appear the plates rubbed against each other and raised up th malay Penninsula and Singapore. Then did it again transposed and made Sumatra and now is doing it again along the axis of the current series of quakes.
Realestate for development is being created as we post.
