A Few Prayers for Texas Cowboy!!
The Horse's Mouth | 08-Apr-05 | Tom Eaker

Prayers for TexasCowboy!

TexasCowboy has been using his hip injury as an excuse to prevent his friends from shooting his new riot gun.

Well some of us offered to take a look at it for him and he decided both a proffesional and sober opinion might make more sense.

So he found a coupon and now he is going to let some old saw-bones cut on him.

Probably a better idea than letting us do it, but a few folks feelings are still hurt!

Please all say a prayer for our Cowboy that he is back in the saddle again real soon.

Thanks so much for the ping Tonk.

TC: Continued unceasing prayers of course.

Sounds like you are in great hands. My son had thirteen of his surgeries there about seven years ago after going toe to toe with a car moving about 50 MPH. They worked absolute miracles and he's doing fantastic. You'd have to KNOW he was hit by a car to even know, except for the scar across his face almost from ear to ear (he opened the windshield with his face). Even with that the plastic surgeons were so good that the scar is hard to see. Amazing work they do there. I am so glad you are in their care.

"I think dogs can sense when their owners don't feel well, so they "keep watch"---I don't know about cats.."

Can't tell you how many times several of my cats have literally saved my life, sleuth!

They indeed are very sensitive to an owner they love, and do stand watch... more than one has alerted me when my blood glucose dropped to dangerous levels while I slept, unaware.

The insulin reactions might have dropped too far down for me to *ever* regain consciousness, the body quickly shutting down from lack of oxygen sent to the brain, and not able to process or act.

One night in 1985 I was becoming ill, with spiralling upward fever and severe chills alternating, lying on the couch so I wouldn't disturb my husband.

Boyo was across the room on top of the television set sleeping, but sensed my situation, hopped down and then up onto me, sprawling flatly from my chin down to warm me, during the drenching chill of the moment!!

Turned out to be pyelonephritis (severe kidney infection) and I was hospitalized 5 days before they could stabilize it.

Boy, you were very lucky, Lady---and I am very glad to hear that about cats...

In your case, with the diabetes, what you feared about "not waking up" is what happened to my granddaughter's uncle...he too had diabetes since he was 5, like Kailey...

He got sick and was vomitting during the night, passed out and his blood sugar dropped so low, that he died...he was 23 years old...Kailey knows that and I think that is one reason that she is so good about getting her finger pricked and taking her insulin shots 3 times a day...

I know you said that you have had a lot of health problems, some of which were probably caused by the diabetes and the other ones, exasperating the diabetes...you are very correct that your cat could very well have saved your life many times...

Please give your cat a hug for me---thank you again for sharing, I love your "stories"....

God Bless you,
later
sleuth

Thanks to a ping from Jim Rob, I found out you are in UCLA and about to get sliced and diced.

When is your surgery scheduled? Please FReepmail me your room number if you don't feel like publishing it on line, so I can send you another card.

Don't know if you got the ones I sent to your P.O box in Texas.

Y'all take care and keep eating those veggies, hear?

Diamondhead and Mrs. Diamondhead were at my place this afternoon helping pack up 4th of July decorations and movies for the troops. We did 5 boxes, 2 for Kirkuk, 1 for Mosul, 1 for Baghdad, and 1 for Bagram, Afghanistan. Still have a couple more to go but no more of the big stuff.

I had Mrs. Diamondhead ironing up 17 flag swags for bunting (you know, those half circle fans of fabric that have red and white bars and stars in a blue patch).

After all our work, we all four went to the Black Bear for steak and veggies.

Then Diamondhead and I played with my gun, while hubby went out to check a tenant.

Now I'm officially down for a nap. My bleeding ulcer is pretty much healed, but I'm still making up blood lost and still get short of breath just from walking across the room.

Didn't slow me down chowing down that top sirloin, however.

Talk with you later.

Cheers!
Patty

You are on my prayer list and I'll add you to our church prayer list if that's OK.

I'm not TC (duh), but I'd sure 'nuf appreciate it if you'd do this. I thank you, WE thank you, from the bottom of our pea pickin' hearts.

This Cowboy guy is sorta special, if you know what I mean.

This might not be funny to some, but keep in mind I worked in and around medicine for 19 years, and cope quite well with Things Medical..:))

Honest Injun, when I worked there I had every week of every month of every year between 7 and 12 insulin reactions, sometimes 2-3 in a single day, and kept on going.
I was (a) sensitive to insulin per se, and (b) to exercise, having to walk a great deal in my position.

Fast forward to 1998 in medical retirement and moving into this present house...worn out from packing and moving and painting, etc., my husband asked me to go along while he drove 35 miles to Lowe's to get more paint -- he is a heart patient, sidelined in 1992, and didn't want to risk going alone, so I sighed and got in the car.

Once there, we scouted other possible needs, going to the back where stacks of wood were -- he decided to scoot to the paint department to see if his had been mixed, just as I suspected my blood glucose was plumetting 'Big Time' - and he didn't hear me call him to come back...

I plopped down on a pile of plywood, doing a Marine Assessment of The Situation --
just then a young man asked me to please move over so he could get a sheet from where I was!

*Literally* too far down to try to speak to him or tell him I was ill, rapidly losing enough focus to survive, I moved over and continued stuffing into my mouth spice drops I *always* carry with me for rapid sugar intake.

Surveying the scene, I spotted just at the end of the row a large cart for carrying lumber, and so help me -- my "Hospital Humor mode/School of Stoicism foundation" kicked in -- saying to self:

"Well - if I do pass out and someone calls 911, they can load me on that cart and haul me to the front door to get me to the EMT's faster!!" - -
and chuckled.

TC - as you already know, I can identify with your Corps ability to matter-of-factly overcome..:))

June 14 - FLAG DAY!

FRiend, you do the work, we do the praying! Sounds like you're surrounded with many bright professionals and that's such good news! (I was already impressed with your doctor - saying he was going in there to make you well!)

Hubby had hip replacement a few years ago. It's pretty hard at first, but as long as you follow the therapists' tips, you'll be on the road to recovery before you know it.

Blessings to you tonight and each day that you prepare for the surgery. And on the 14th, our flags will be flying proudly, all over the country for YOU as well as our country! FReeper prayer warriors are everywhere! We miss you, big guy. God speed.

Hang in there, old friend. You've got so many people praying for you, that GOD just has to listen...it's the only way we're going to stop talking to the man upstairs about you.
