A Knox County teacher is back on the job after making a pre-school student relieve herself in a bucket in front of other students.
It happened in early March to a little girl at the Sam E. Hill Family Community Center.
Sheila Knight was put on leave while the school system looked into the allegations.
DCS also investigated and found no evidence of abuse.
Knight later admitted to the accusations, called it "a severe lapse in judgment," and got a strong written reprimand. School officials say that was the strongest punishment allowed at the time.
Knight, who has worked for Knox County Schools for almost 20 years, is back on the job.
The student is in another classroom.

This is one case where the school and the teacher should be sued IF the press report is correct and complete.

my three year old's classroom has a bathroom opening off the side and that door is never closed - to prevent abuse or allegations thereof. Standard procedure in other schools I have seen also.

You bring up a good point. We've stopped by the road before so our young kids can go potty and we figured, well they are only little so what's the harm. I can certainly see though where a over dramatic reporter then posts "Parent makes child pee in front of oncoming traffic" and makes it look like something it is not.

Most parents spend more time choosing what car or TV to buy than they spend choosing what school to send their child to. I have said almost the identical thing many times to many people and I am branded a cynic. I'm glad to read that at least someone else shares my "cynicism."
And choosing a college is even worse. Most parents have no idea what goes on in their child's college classroom. The school's "name" is much more important than the liberal propaganda that is taught there.

I really hope there is more to this story than offered in the article. If not, I'm sorry but I agree the teacher should not be teaching. Some little kids don't care, but some do, and we should be encouraging modesty.
What is this world coming to?

"relieve herself in a bucket"
Ohhhhhhhhhhh RELIEVE herself, I read that quick and thought it said REVEAL, like undress.
That makes much more sense. Not that there's anything OK with what this teacher did I just couldn't figure out how she'd reveal her self "in a bucket"

Another good point. Preschoolers seem more mortified that they have wet themselves, then peeing in an open stall.

"a severe lapse in judgment," similar to the decision to put her back in the classroom. My thoughts exactly!

"We've stopped by the road..."
When I lived in Ireland (3 years, late 70's-early 80's) there were numerous times we stopped by the side of the road to use the "sheep loo".

That's what I was thinking. Preschoolers can be as young as 2 1/2. They can't hold it and really don't care where they go. Out on the playground once, I saw a little boy whip it out, pee on a tree, and go right back to playing....

It's much better to homeschool - then you get to be the dictator. Why leave the fun to others ? ;)
Yes, I am a dictator....but I prefer to think of myself as a "benevolent" dictator. :-)

Thank goodness for the NEA! Otherwise, our children would miss out on the opportunity to experience uplifting and educational assignments such as this. </heavy sarcasm>

Two to four year olds belong with their mothers, not some public indoctrination center.

Don't get me wrong...there's no question about the levels of authority in our house (God being the top), I just consider myself benevolent since I give them things like shelter, clothing, and meals. ;-)

Two to four year olds belong with their mothers - some mothers have to work, fortunately my wife is a teacher at their school and gets to see them throughout the day. If you would like to send us enough money to pay our San Francisco mortgage, I am sure she would be happy to stay home.
