Teacher forces preschooler to relieve herself in front of other students
WBIR (NBC-10 Knoxville) ^ | 4/7/5 | Jennifer Geiger , Producer

A Knox County teacher is back on the job after making a pre-school student relieve herself in a bucket in front of other students.

It happened in early March to a little girl at the Sam E. Hill Family Community Center.

Sheila Knight was put on leave while the school system looked into the allegations.

DCS also investigated and found no evidence of abuse.

Knight later admitted to the accusations, called it "a severe lapse in judgment," and got a strong written reprimand. School officials say that was the strongest punishment allowed at the time.

Knight, who has worked for Knox County Schools for almost 20 years, is back on the job.

The student is in another classroom.

If a parent had made a child relieve herself in a bucker while in front of other children the parent would have family social services on them in a heartbeat and take the child as well.

What is going on with that school?

OK. Well, do you mind if a few of us homeschool?

Thanks for that link...

I think what was missing from the originally posted article was WHY the teacher did this in the first place...

From the article (child's mother speaking about a phone call received from the teacher)"She said my daughter and two other girls at nap time, they have to go to the bathroom and when they take them, they really don't have to go. So, she was trying to make a point."

So, because the teacher was frustrated because children were acting like children do she decided to make a point by forcing a child to pee in front of her peers. The teacher also admitted to pulling down the girls' pants and her underwear - the child didn't do these things herself in the process of going to the bathroom - it was FORCED upon her to behave in this manner.

It is clear to me at least, that this teacher should NOT be teaching any longer - I don't care how frustrated she was at having to accompany these children to the bathroom everyday it's no excuse for stripping a child down in front of the class and humiliating them like that... DCS said "no abuse" - if this isn't abuse by an authority figure I don't know what is...

Once past a certain age, kids should be in social environments with other kids. It is unhealthy for kids to contantly spend their time with adults.

ModernMan! We have you been? I've missed you on some of these threads!

You are, as usual, incorrect. But that is not surprising since you are "Modern" man and refuse to get wisdom from the Bible.

In answer to your point, homeschoolers do not spend ALL their time with adults. Quite the contrary. They spend vast amounts of time with every age group that you could point a finger at. They are MUCH better at socialization skills than most ANY public school student because they know how to interact with everyone, not just their peer group.

Nice try though....

You sound like a Muslim.

Aw c'mon ModernMan, you're "MODERN"! You can do better than an old tired cliche like that.

I'm a Christian, and the Bible covers all areas of life.

It's pretty simple really...

"You sound like a Muslim."

No, no, no--ineffective. You aren't going far enough.

Remember the talking points: For your remark to have REAL effect you have to refer to anyone that dares to hold the Bible in such high regard as an "American Taliban".

Survive? Maybe. For some people, that's about all they can do on one salary.

Well, survival IS one thing that is important. Raising Godly children is another.

BTW...I'm just picking on you a little on the earlier posts for being so "Modern". Just having some fun...

Nonsense. The Bible is just another old book, no better than the Koran or any other holy book.

I do pray that you have a long, long life....for one day comes judgment and I wouldn't want to repeat that phrase at the throne.

Actually, I was waiting for Nazi. What good is a thread without equating someone with the Nazi's?

What age? How unhealthy?

How many kids that are homeschooled never interact in social environments with other kids?

I think that ModernMan just gave us a series of "drive-by" postings. He has no base from which to stage his position.

"He has no base from which to stage his position."

Oh, I dunno. There are quite a few that share those opinions, it's just that they typically either work for a University or a news network.

Exactly how I feel...thanks for your show of support.

What I mean by "base" is that he doesn't have a foundation. He can only quote his "Science", but he doesn't even understand the true definition of science and the three requirements for something to be made a scientific fact.

We have God's word as our foundation and it is pretty easy to debate these folks having that on our side.

Excellent way for us to learn from others mistakes. People's obsessions with "things" keeps the credit cards companies fat and happy.

every child knows , if taught properly, that bathroom activities are private, not a social event.... it is in the BACK of the room, it is not a social event, please don't exaggerate kids at home don't gather around the john to watch each other, why on earth is this encouraged among kids not even related to one another.... who said it was encouraged, who said they gathered around, please don't exaggerate but I can't see defending this for anything other than what it is......a idiotic and unthinking action probably because the teacher didn't want to be inconvenienced.... yes, the teachers are all idiots, thank you for not exaggerating.

18Seeing that many boast according to the flesh, I also will boast. 19For you put up with fools gladly, since you yourselves are wise! 20For you put up with it if one brings you into bondage, if one devours you, if one takes from you, if one exalts himself, if one strikes you on the face.

I like to debate and challenge ideas and hope that all of us would come away having "learned a little something".

Well, I already knew the value of homeschooling, and the moral imperatives in Proverbs. I also know that way too many people use the financial thing as a cop-out.

I really wasn't disagreeing with the general case you were making - I simply was trying to point out that, at least in my case, public schooling wasn't chosen lightly, and with properly grounded older kids, they can take an active role in watchdogging for any socialist garbage. (For example, I already have the kids primed to inform me if there's even so much as a WHIFF of this "Day of Silence" stuff trying to creep in, and so far, there's none. And, thankfully their school still has an active FCA chapter, and their principal IS a devout Christian.)
