I am reading all the stories saying the Pope had considered resigning. Maybe, but I can't find it in the texts. It seems he wondered how long God would have him serve as Pope, but that can easily be a reference to serving until death.

He may have had doubts about his ability to continue serving but he never once relinquished his duty. There is no righteous man on Earth without sin - and to question God is not to betray Him but to love Him fully. The day Man stops trying to bring God closer to Him is the day that God will turn His Face away from us. We do not want to see that day ever come.

I read he had considered resigning in 2000. He made the will out long before then

Most often, people commit suicide because they don't seek counsel of their Father. JPII probably asked the Lord how much longer God would have him as Pope, and God probably basically told him to stay with it a little bit longer, your work is not complete but it's almost done. JPII's last days were an example for us all. Much like the last days of Jesus before he died on the cross. Many often don't think about it, but, like Christ, JPII demonstrated that suffering is a gift from God.
