President Bush will view the body of Pope John II immediately upon his arrival Wednesday from Washington, Vatican spokesman Joaquin Navarro-Valls said.
Bush and a U.S. delegation that includes two former presidents were flying to Rome late Wednesday to attend Friday's funeral, along with kings, presidents and government leaders from some 100 countries.
It was not immediately known if other heads of state would view the body, which has been lying in state in St. Peter's Basilica since Monday afternoon.
Dignitaries were being allowed to skip the massive line of pilgrims that snaked down a wide boulevard, through ancient alleyways and onto a bridge.
Thanks kristinn. I was pulled away from the TV at the moment of their payments of respect, so/and thanks for telling me that. I will have to watch the replay. Take care.
I grew up Southern Baptist and converted to Catholicism several years ago. I always had a problem with the "praying to" the Blessed Virgin and the Saints. However, the priest, a Benedictine monk, who did my confirmation studies explained it to me in a way that made sense. He said, and I believe, that the Saints and definitely the Blessed Virgin are already in Heaven. They're right there next to Jesus. We're praying for their intercession with Jesus. Very similar to you asking a friend to pray for you. Members of Baptist churches all over this country ask the other members to pray for them regularly. It's not really different, only we're asking for someone who's already in Heaven to take our requests or concerns directly to God.
" I remember hearing that Klintoon was 'picking-his-brain' for his Nixonian insights into Foreign Policy since Klintoon had very little experience at that point in his Presidency and was eager to learn"
Monica Crowley has spoken about this and, if I understood her correctly, Nixon was happy to do it, because he felt that his opinion mattered and he wanted to help any prez if he could.
If Carter hadn't made a jackass of himself during the 2004 campaign, he might have made the trip. He snubbed himself the moment his ugly mug peered from the left side of the kook fringe political stage. Hillary knows why she's not going, and she's not making a sound. Carter may as well go pound 16 penny nails into the wall with his ugly head.
It's well worth keeping an eye out for a replay.
If you can't stay on topic, stay off this thread.
"LOL.....once when I was young I forget my veil for Mass....My mom made me wear a kleenex through the whole Mass that she found in her purse..."
LOL is right - I'd forgotten about all the times we wore kleenex on our heads with a hairpin!
And quit spamming the threads.
"My hope and prayer is that our great Prez and his delegation were able to successfully do so, and have their moment, completely and in calm."
Amen.
It's praying to the Mother Mary and to saints that I don't understand.
I am with you there... grew up Baptist. So I just go straight to Jesus, no matter where I am. So is he.
That's right...and speaking just for me, if anyone wanted to get on my good side they'd better be nice to my mamma! At least when she was alive. I could never deny my mother any favor she asked me.
Dignitaries were allowed to skip the line, including the AS Roma soccer squad, which filed past the pope's body dressed in their dark team blazers early Wednesday, led by captain Francesco Totti.
Soccer players are now dignitaries. LOL
Yep, in a blistering heat. We wound up being dispatch and were pulling in water tanks and medical people from all over the state, within reasonable distance. IIRC about 20,000 people were treated. It was a long day...
HAHAHAHAHAHA ... well put. And we all know what a good Jewish boy Christ was. Very devoted to his mother.
I had the great pleasure of having a Mass all to myself, in a small Benedictine monastery, for my confirmation. And it was on the feast day of St. John the Baptist. I think Father Andrew did that on purpose. You should have seen my Southern Baptist mother (from Arkansas) doing one of the readings in a New England Benedictine monastery. That was a wonderful sight to behold.
Having converted, I think there are times we take our faith less for granted (in some cases, but not all) than cradle Catholics. There are some very devoted people out there, but I've noticed during Mass that some people are just repeating words without thinking about what they're saying.
That's a helpful response. Thanks.
Use him? For what? He went with Bush 41 to tour the areas ravaged by the tsunami in December of 2004, yet he holds no political office where he can abuse his power to advance his sickening leftist agenda. This includes being sent to the UN as the US Ambassador. It may happen in the future, but it won't happen under Bush's watch.
To be truthful, I think a lot of life-long Catholics don't entirely understand that aspect of our faith. When you think about it, it does make a lot of sense. Some people "pray to" their grandparents as well. Or their departed parents.
