I grew up Southern Baptist and converted to Catholicism several years ago. I always had a problem with the "praying to" the Blessed Virgin and the Saints. However, the priest, a Benedictine monk, who did my confirmation studies explained it to me in a way that made sense. He said, and I believe, that the Saints and definitely the Blessed Virgin are already in Heaven. They're right there next to Jesus. We're praying for their intercession with Jesus. Very similar to you asking a friend to pray for you. Members of Baptist churches all over this country ask the other members to pray for them regularly. It's not really different, only we're asking for someone who's already in Heaven to take our requests or concerns directly to God.
That's right...and speaking just for me, if anyone wanted to get on my good side they'd better be nice to my mamma! At least when she was alive. I could never deny my mother any favor she asked me.
That's a helpful response. Thanks.
That's a wonderful explanation... a very wise man!
