There's a photograph in the paper that doesn't appear on the website, but the photo depicts a black girl on the court laughing. The teacher is wearing a t-shirt that reads "Macro," an afro wig and (though I can't tell from the photo) apparently brown make-up.

The article further says:
The Telegraph reviewed photos taken at the event that show Dougherty wearing an exaggerated Afro-like wig, and with brownish makeup covering his face and arms. Seems a pretty astonishingly dumb thing to do. Hasn't this guy followed the news since, say, 1972?

How come when a teacher imitates an African American it's racist, but when Enimem does it they give him millions of dollars?

When the notion was brought up for Dougherty to appear at the game in blackface, he asked students if that would be insensitive, and they assured him it wouldn't, Boggs said. I was going to say the teacher should not be fired until I got to this part of the article. If the teacher is so stupid that he needs to get advise from students on what is appropriate behaivor or not, he does not belong teaching kids.

but the photo depicts a black girl on the court laughing. What "court"? A basketball court?
But I thought "White Men Can't Jump"?

Oh, man! I went with the stupid description until I read that this was a student-teacher basketball game.
Come on! That's supposed to be an evening of fun, frivolity, funny costumes, and hi-jinks. That's why he asked the kids.....the whole deal was supposed to be light-hearted. Even the black kids went along with it, noting the laughing girl in the photo. And I expect there were blacks in his "voting" classroom who okayed the costume.
That's probably the one of the few times where something like that should be taken as funny. At a "real" basketball game it would definitely be non-PC and very stupid.

A Central High School social studies teacher could lose his job "for mimicking an African-American" at a student-faculty basketball game March 25. It's hard to have sympathy for anyone in academia.
To be a teacher today you have to buy into the PC garbage or you don't get a job. This guy is a "social studies" teacher which means he knows the way today's educational PC world works, and he's probably been walking around on egg shells trying to appease the academic feminists.
If the guy has any common sense he'll get a job as a tradesman and make more money than he could as a teacher, not to mention having less headaches.

The best thing that could happen is for her to fire him. That way, he would be free to move out of Macon to a school system that needs good teachers. Macon is a dying city and people with intelligence and ambition need to get out while they can.

Didn't you know that only blacks are allowed to imitate other blacks and only blacks are allowed to call another black a n$gga. Let a white person do it and you see what happens to them for offending one of the lefts' most prized and cherished possessions, a "minority". Minorities, especially blacks, hold almost "godlike" status in the eyes of the left. They are not to be insulted, made fun of, ridiculed, or even held to the same standard as the rest of us because they hold permanent "victim" status. Anybody that violates these tenants, will suffer the wrath of the left.

Student vs teacher basketball games are usually for fun and having a good time..lots of jokes...and raising money for a good cause..
Teach took and unofficial poll and the kids seem to think it would be funny if he did it...
My guess is the guy probably thought he was going to entertain the kids ..make them laugh...etc
He should have talked it over with the faculty first...
But fire him...the kids probably laughed but a few self righteous parents looking for any excuse to be offended or to make political book found their opening and decided that ruining a otherwise good teacher's career is not as important as their right to be offended..and to throw a temper tantrum about it...
Hopefully when their kids come home and tell them they aren't learning anything at that school...the parents figure out why...they just got rid of a good teacher...and have taken something good away from their own kids..
But in order to figure that out they would have to put their self righteousness aside at least for uno momentito imo

This is absolutely ridiculous. Political correctness at its extreme.
The school where this fellow teaches is about 90% black. I am sure he wasn't trying to be offensive, just having fun and showing some good school spirit at the game.
