A Central High School social studies teacher could lose his job "for mimicking an African-American" at a student-faculty basketball game March 25.
Bibb County Schools Superintendent Sharon Patterson said Tuesday that she has recommended Greg Dougherty for termination.
Patterson said she first heard of the incident in the middle of last week but did not begin her investigation until Monday, when classes resumed after spring break. She sent a letter to Dougherty on Tuesday, she said.
Erin Weaver, principal at Central High, confirmed Tuesday that Dougherty was on administrative leave and had been recommended for termination "for mimicking an African-American."

Did he double-dribble or travel?
I'm shocked you're the only one who has questioned me on that. I was braced for an immediate flaming. Maybe if I'd dressed myself in blackface and then claimed Eminem has talent I'd have gotten more of a reaction.
And no, of course Eminem doesn't have talent.
> They still haven't fired Ward Churchill but they terminated a neo Nazi professor. <
IIRC, Churchill has tenure and the nazi guy didn't. Big difference in academia.
That being said, I think your point is still valid: you get cut way more slack if you offend from the left because your "heart's in the right place."
Where what at? ;-)
LOL! Good find. Yep, it only works one way.
Exactly. This is how "politically correct" took over the nation. Someone lost their sense of humor.....and the rest of us have to walk on eggshells. He wasn't being hateful or demeaning. People need to quit looking for things to get offended about.
I imagine you are one of those who somehow classify Rap as "music."
Just maybe he is NOT afraid of the news since 1972!
I too walk the razor thin line of trying not to offend, but the ass clown in me sometimes breaks free. Lighten up people!!!
The best thing that could happen is for her to fire him. That way, he would be free to move out of Macon to a school system that needs good teachers. Macon is a dying city and people with intelligence and ambition need to get out while they can.
What I would like to know is, could he jump? He got game?
The guy was having fun, and he even checked with his students to ask if it would be insensitive. Maybe he just doesn't give a darn about the PC police. Here's hoping things work out well for this teacher, either at this school or another.
The teacher should have used better judgment. jd ping
It was a joke. I didn't think the sarcasm tag was needed.
I agree, I just wonder if he had better judgment to use.
When will that old photo of President Bill Clinton appear on this thread. Clinton wore an Afro wig while playing the bongos and it was photographed. Anyone have it? That teacher could use it in his defense.
Bill Clinton has teflon that amazes me.
good point... he sounds young and since his students thought it was okay, imagined the action to have no problem. However, considering the people he works with (administration) he should have known better. My sister was fired from her substitute teacher job just for suggesting to a student that she get herself out of the 'inclusion' class.
I'll give you that - he probably wasn't being hateful or demeaning. Still, it seems plain to me that he should have realized he was putting his job in jeopardy. Would you go to some sort of work-related function in black face?
