There is a relatively new book out about the possible poisoning of Oliver Cromwell. Most historians think Cromwell died a natural death but THE DEATH OF CROMWELL looks at all the possibilities. One problem is that mercury was involved in some treatments in those days.
Certainly the history of Spain is full of statecraft via poison.
