Was Pete a smoker? Anyway, I wish him well.

He was a heavy smoker from what I understood, but he might have quit a few years ago.

When he was a correspondent years ago, he smked "Players" cigarettes. No filter. Very strong. Actually, kinda like smoking rope.

I do hope he recovers.

That was my first thought as well. I have known a few persons who had lung cancer that were not smokers. Still it does come to mind as a cause.

Yes. Started when he was 13, with tea leaves.

If they are talking surgery, then he doesn't have small-cell. That means he's got a shot at beating this. 5-year survivability for squamous cell carcinoma is 30%, and for adenocarcinoma, 15%. I'm assuming ABC offeres excellent health coverage, and that Peter has regular check-ups and caught this early.

If it's A) early stage, and B) resectable, they'll just pop the infected lobe(s) out and he'll be fine.

yes, he smoked. Years ago when my parents first got a satellite dish, we would watch the news feeds before they are edited. I'll never forget seeing him on location somewhere with President Reagan. He was just smoking away and put the cigarette by his side when he was broadcasting.

If he was, that makes it 10 times worse.
You know he would have quit in a second because it isn't politically accepted in the circles he travels in. The fact that he may have been a smoker says alot about how hard it is to quit smoking. I, too, hope he has a successfuly recovery.
