I realize this is OT, in a way.
Does anyone have any familiarity/knowledge with Catahoula Leopard dogs? Are they 'safe' as a family dog?
I'm looking into dogs that can help with our horses, but yet still be a family member.

Classified ads appearing for APBT breeders in Dog Fancy Magazine include Land Shark Kennels, Monster Squad Kennels, and Jurassic Kennels. Is there any mystery to what kind of person this marketing is being directed?

Not enough background information on the pets or the pet owners, for that matter not enough information on the actual facts behind the death for anyone here to be able to give an informed opinion...la

One option that seems decent to me is residential tarriffs. Its a powerful and underused mechanism in our society imo..
I've lived in a large neighborhood that had a tight residential tarriff.. no wood burning, no dangerous dogs which they had a list..among other restrictions. If you don't agree with the rules, you dont' have to live there.
Also through the city government is another way, mainly in residential type cities. They grandfather all of the living dogs in the breeds they dont' want through. So no one loses their dog. They just can't replace it while living there.

My cousin swears they are gentle dogs and are only violent when trained to be that way. However, I have yet to see a story about a killer poodle or a killer cocker spaniel. Hmmmm.

Every time I read one of these (pit bull kills child) I post this: Pit bull owners should be put to death. Seems I have to do this about once a month now days.
I always get posts back saying "we have a pit bull that would never harm a flea", and put me down for my view. That is, until their little darling takes the face off of the little girl next door. That breed of dogs needs to be taken of the face of the earth, they serve no purpose.

When I was 8 I was attacked by a Black lab and I have scares that will be on my face for the rest of my life. My cousin was attacked and killed by the Black Lab two weeks later, my heart will be scared for life as well. The saddest part is that the media never made a story about it and nobody knows how dangerous Black Labs can be. All the media tells you about is the Pit Bull attacks, because thats what people want to hear about. They don't want to know about the killer Black Labs. Also what about the Collie that killed the three year old last summer. Their good dogs as well, RIGHT! People need to realize how much socialization and training a Pit Bull needs and the time that takes and start blaming their self instead of the breed they neglected.
