MSNBC's Chris Matthews: Terri Schiavo's Dad Having "Good Time" by Steven Ertelt LifeNews.com Editor April 1, 2005
New York, NY (LifeNews.com) -- Chris Matthews, the host of the "Hardball" political talk show on MSNBC shocked listeners of the Don Imus radio show yesterday when he claimed Terri Schiavo's father Bob Schindler was having a "good time" as his daughter starved to death.
Just hours before Terri Schiavo succumbed to a thirteen day starvation and dehydration death, Matthews made the comments.
"There's nobody here who looks particularly compelling or attractive," Matthews told Imus on the his program.
"The father seems to be having, I hate to say this, a good time. I don't know why, maybe it's the focus, maybe he's giddy with sadness of the tragedy that has been going on for so long," Matthews said.
One pro-life leader told LifeNews.com the comments were "mean-spirited" and "insensitive" and made with "terrible timing."
However, Bob Schindler has been grieving throughout the entire process and told the media earlier in the week that he was "scared to death" to visit his daughter because he was so worried about her fate and weakening condition.
"She's shown such a determination to live. It's incredible," he said at the time.
In a press conference with reports after Terri's death, Bob told the media that Terri "spoke loudly" even thought she was unable to speak for herself.
"As a member of our family unable to stand under your own power, you stood with a grace and a dignity that made your family proud," he said. "Terri, we love you dearly, but we know that God loves you more than we do. We must accept your untimely death as God's will."

Well, it's not 'wing-dings'! That Extra Picante Taco must have gone to your brain, LOL.
That was a stupid thing for Matthews to say.
Matthews was having a good time while watching a citizen die a horrible death.
It would seem to me that is Chris Matthews having a good time, thinking anyone actually listens to or takes him serious.
Where is Zell Miller when we need him?
I have little or no respect for Chris Matthews! Most of the time as Sean Hannity says, "he's on the wrong side of history."
Terri ping! If anyone would like to be added to or removed from my Terri ping list, please let me know by FReepmail!
Thanks for posting this. Welcome to Free Republic!
If Chrissy Matthews had ever spoken to the Schindlers in person, he might have understood Bob much better. Of course, that would be assuming he was actually listening to Mr. Schindler instead of just loving to hear his own voice all the time.
Matthews must be one of those cafeteria Catholics like John Kerry who like to pick and choose which of the church's teachings they'll actually follow. What a disgrace!
That Mathews said Mr. Schindler 'looked like he was having a good time' is such a cruel perversion of the truth that nobody in their right mind could ever believe it. Mathews has become vicious and heartless, and his statement should prove to everyone that the liberals are desperately seeking to destroy all that is good, even if it means attacking a man whose heart is breaking over the cruel killing of his beloved dauther.
First they kill Terri Schiavo, then they want to shove a stake through her father's heart for good measure. Ba-tards.
Chris Matthews is a pig! If anyone was having a "good time" it was Felos, Greer, and Mikey....
What a sick, sick bastard.
Chris Matthews is one of the few people who seems to get away with being two different people. "Mr. Evil" guy on his cable show and radio, and "Mr. Thoughtful Nice Guy" on the show that is broadcast on NBC, where the Main Stream Viewers (MSV) might actually see him.
I saw pictures of Terri's dad during this time, and the grief on his face was heart wrenching. He looked like a broken man.
Every time Chris Matthews opens up his mouth, he sounds like a jerk, but this is just plain sleazy.
How very crass of Matthews.
I can tell you why Mr Schlinder is holding up and looks "like he is having a good time". It is because of God's grace, comfort and strength. I have experienced that ability and it is amazing. How could anyone at the funeral of an adored one, even think to go introduce another family member to others? How could they go to their jobs, how could they handle normal business after having the worst news of their life?
Don't we all know that God is giving the Schlinder's strength during this time. It was noticeable when he apologized to the press for their hardship of being at the hospice.
How can people that are on TV as a host have absolutely none of the talent and poise to handle the job?
What a nimrod...Her father looked wiped out every time I saw him and his wife on the news. Is there no hole deep enough these people will stoop? Incredible!

I totally agree Awestruck!! Felos was on a sick high during the entire 2 weeks, after Terri's food and water tube was removed.
It's very ironic that Matthews would make such a hedious statement and now be in Rome covering the Pope's funeral week for MSNBC. Especially since the Vatican swiftly came out against the murder of Terri. Also, I am almost certain I heard Chris Matthrews say he removed his mom's feeding tube. Was he having a *good time* during the period of time when his mom was without food and water? I would never have asked such a thing, if he hadn't said it about Terri's dad. Matthews may have been projecting on Terri's dad, what he was feeling during the time he was waiting for his mom to die.
I heard his comment to IMUS and couldn't believe my ears. I think Matthews is not only very cruel, but also on the dumb side. IMUS didn't even respond to what Chris M. said. Could be that IMUS was also shocked by such a horrible remark.
Something along the lines of "Are all of those people really religious or are they there because it's the popular place to be?"
