Roy Williams gets that National Championship! North Carolina Tarheels win!
Yeah, it really was bad, but I don't think it necessarily favored one team or another.
I don't think it did either. NC looked to me like they got a lot of extremely cheap fouls called their way in the first half, and then in the second the refs were apparently going to let Illinois do everything short of whipping out guns and shooting the 'Heels on those picks. Good game, shame the officiating made it less than it should have been.
Okay, allow me to stew in my misery for a few seconds. I guess I now know how the Red Sox fans felt every time they lost to the Yankees. The whole season seemed magic, but now everything is ruined (including the AZ game) because they couldn't finish the job. The worst part is that they aren't even going to be talented enough to win in the "weak" Big Ten Conference next year. Next year equals sub .500, no NCAA bid Illini team, and poor Bruce Weber will probably lose his job.
Perhaps, if I live to 123, the Illini will have another shot at a title, but I much doubt it...
I was being partially sarcastic.
Oh. :o)
I'm sure they'll give him more than one year even if they have a losing record next year. But at least now we'll find out if the guy can recruit his own players.
This was a pretty unfulfilling championship game for me. I don't have anything against either team or coach, but it always kind of irks me when a new coach comes in and wins with all the prior coach's recruits. That was going to happen whichever team won the game last night, so I didn't really have a rooting interest.
And heavy banging on May inside. Illinois should have fouled out 4 guys just from that.
You said:I hope you all realize what that piece of crap university stands for before you go about congratulating them. They hate us conservatives and they hate this state. I will gladly tell that to anybody who brings them up in conversation before this game, after and anytime in the future. by the way, if you buy there crap merchandise, then you are giving your money to the other side. Rant off. check it out for yourself.
I agree, being a double Carolina grad, that the Hill is full of libs. BUT, sports is about as UNliberal as you can get. All about performance, ability (or you get cut) and results, not good intentions. There are a substantial (although a minority) of conservatives who came through Carolina, who ended up successful in business, despite the attempted indoctrination. I love UNC despite, not because of, the liberals that infest it.
Class, and from Maryland. Who woulda thunkit? Just kidding. Thanks for the congrats.
Please explain to me the liberal politics of basketball from the tipoff to the buzzer.
This was noted a few comments above, so I'm not sure repeating it is necessary.
For myself, the only even conscionable university is NC State, and they've got their own problems with renegade profs and cheese-eating surrender monkey students. That said, the nursing school is rumoured to be excellent. The problem would be, as it was in California, that nurses tend to vote extremely liberal and this kind of tendency would only be intensified at a school like UNC. There are alternatives, use them (for instance, UNC-Greensboro).
Cheers,
Beleg
"I guess he missed ALL OF THOSE MOVING PICTS BY ILL."
No kidding. I mean, if Billy Packer points out bad "non-calls" that would have worked in Carolina's favor, they MUST have been some VERY obvious illegal picks. Parker never gives Carolina a break.
Oh, yeah, what about the Illini coach repeatedly coming out on the court. Regs totally let that go. He could have gotten four Ts easy.
"No one else could guard May."
What do you mean, "else?"
"BUT, sports is about as UNliberal as you can get. "
Without a doubt. In fact, if it was up to the libs at UNC there would be no basketball . . . or football, or anything worth a crap. But I bet you soccer would still exist.
What cost Illinois was the inability to sink a shot in the last two minutes.
I suspect mort56 must have been at the ballet...much more meaningful to the grand scheme...or perhaps he was studying one of Salvado Dali's magnificant works...whatever it was, I hope he effected the 'grand scheme' in a good way.
Now tonight I have to hollar for my Baylor Bears!
Sic'em Lady Bears!
Unfortunately for any Illini fan, we already know the answer... He really doesn't have what it takes. Exhibit 1 - He lost the top player in the state, Julian Wright to Kansas, and Bill Self didn't even decide to recruit this guy until the last minute. Exhibit 2 - The best Jr. in the state, Jon Schereyer, is likely going to sign with Duke despite the fact that he plays for Bruce Weber's brother at Glenview North. So I think my prediction that Weber is going to have a half life of about five years and a sub .500 record is unfortunately correct.
The sad thing about this whole game is the fact that UNC is going to be back in the FF in about two years and will likely win another national championship; while us long suffering Illini fans are going to have to wait another 15+ years for a shot. UNC gets all the acclaim anyways; why can't we get a lucky break just this once.
