Sen. Martinez Aide Resigns Over Schiavo Memo

Florida Senator Mel Martinez, a Republican, has admitted that the unsigned memo circulated among Congress that called the Terri Schiavo case a “great political issue” was written by a senior member of his staff.

Although Martinez did not name the staff member, informed sources say that the author of the memo which said that the removal of Terri Schiavo’s feeding tube was a “tough issue for Democrats” was attorney Brian Darling, 39, a former lobbyist. He has resigned his position

Schiavo Priest Says Living Wills, Autopsy Not The Answer

Father Frank Pavone, national director of Priests for Life who gave the homily at the funeral Mass in Gulfport, Fl., for Terri Schiavo Tuesday evening, April 5, issued a statement Thursday that whatever the autopsy results for the disabled woman show “are irrelevant to the moral judgment that she was murdered”.

“The level of brain damage that she had can never justify what was done to her”, Pavone said. “Life does not lose its value and dignity when it is damaged

" Drawing up a living will is “both unnecessary and dangerous”, Pavone said in his statement. “We cannot make treatment decisions today for circumstances of tomorrow that we cannot predict. Whether a medical treatment is morally required depends on those circumstances and therefore cannot be determined in advance. It is always morally required, moreover, to provide food and water to a patient, because food and water, even when provided artificially, do not constitute medical treatment but rather humane care. We are not morally permitted to request starvation and dehydration”. "

Agreed. Living Wills are partly what got us into this mess to begin with.

There isn't a thing about this case that doesn't make me sick. God Bless and prayers for the Schindlers.
