Terri Schiavo Cremated Amid Family Feud

Saturday, April 02, 2005

TAMPA, Fla.  Terri Schiavo's body was cremated Saturday as disagreements continued between her husband and her parents, who were unable to have their own independent expert observe her autopsy.

The cremation was carried out according to a court order issued Tuesday establishing that Michael Schiavo () had the right to make such decisions, said his lawyer, George Felos. He said plans for burying her ashes in Pennsylvania, where she grew up, had not yet been completed.

Terri Schiavo's parents, Bob and Mary Schindler, had wanted to bury their daughter in Pinellas County so they could visit her grave.

Terri Schiavo, 41, died Thursday after the removal of the feeding tube that had kept her alive since 1990, when she suffered brain damage that court-appointed doctors determined had placed her in a persistent vegetative state (). Her parents had fought in court to keep her alive, disputing the doctors' opinions and saying there was hope of improvement.

What is "Flag"?

"than were there also wishes about her desire to stay married to a man who violated their marriage vows by committing adultery?"

Excellent point! Perhaps something to address this issue should be written into law?

I think the parents may have raised that arguement in some form but it was deemed irrelivent?

"I can tell you have not worked in a hospital or given a deposition."

No, can't say I've worked in a hospital. Yes, I have given depositions. So, no, you can't tell.

If you have worked in a hospital as you seem to imply, what is your take on the "wanna be" a real nurse depositions?

Is it even plausible that MS was injecting her with insulin and the nurse not report it to someone in a position of authority..and then that person not do anything about it? Is it plausible that he could change her med charts, which are required to be in pen if I'm not mistaken, and nobody but Carla Lyer would notice or question it? Does it strike you as odd that she wouldn't mention the needles in her affidavit but more than happy to talk about it years later on TV?

"I posted the link upthread to the storty about this."

Sorry but "the link" doesn't appear to show up on the search I made. I'm interested if you can find it. :-)

The state of Florida requires an autopsy if a body is to be cremated. MS had no choice.

He could have removed the body to PA for burial and then cremated it. At the very least he could have decided to not cremate the body. So yes he a number of choices. To say he had NO choice is be disingenuous.

The article you posted repeats too many uninvestigated details of Terri's condition, such as a "flat EEG":

I think the article's conclusion that her life was the equivalent of that of a "64 cell blastocyte" is appalling.

Although even so, let's see the wording and outcome of a lawsuit that is filed if a fertility clinic would inadvertantly destroy a "blastocyte" of 5 cells prior to implantation in parents who created and wanted it.

Back to Terri- Try this, concerning some of the medical evaluations that were used to condemn Terri to death:

And this, concerning "peristent vegetative state":

"Post 336 is an article and the last sentence addresses the issue of the ME's power to have the DCF reports even if they are sealed by the Judge."

Found it! Thanks.

I think there's a bit of confusion about just what it is they're referring to though.

The Schindlers' in an attempt to postpone the feeding tube removal etc. filed a motion (in early March of this year)to have the DFC intervene based on abuse. (The abuse being the care she was receiving...there was also some thought to Bush ordering the DFC to intervene.) This is summed up in Greer's response here Judge Greer denies Department of Children and Families request to intervene

He makes note that the DFC made previous inquiries and DFC DID NOT find the alleged abuses in previous investigations.

The sense among those discussing the sealed records is that there is previous allegations of Michael abusing her, such as wife battering?, that the DFC investigated these charges and the judge sealed these types of records.

From my reading, this latter thought doesn't appear to be the case? I'll stand corrected if someone has other info.

How about this for Hammesfahr...just scroll down to his name, the false claims and read the study in "quack watch"

What he did not anticipate was the autopsy as required by Florida statute

Wishful thinking on your part. His lawyers did a much better job of lawyering than the Schindlers. I very much doubt they would overlook something like this, especially Felos as his cases would frequently deal with dead people.

Yep.

Funny how the speculators change their tune. First it was speculated that MS "wouldn't allow an autopsy" because he would be found out and the crimminal abuse he heaped upon his wife would be disclosed.....a cover up even!

Now it's he has no say in the matter.

How about this for charges, a legal investigation and legal findings about the efficacy of Dr Hammesfahr's treatment results?

Just in case your lips move when you read and tire you out, scroll to pagees 33-39 and concentrate real hard on paragraphs 52-70.

Micheal Schiavo made his beloved Terri sit in the dark alone for hours.
He also wouldn't let her have music, TV, stuffed animals, pictures on the walls or even the windows open for fresh air.

No stimulation of any kind.

"What the heck is wrong with Florida?"

What's wrong is the people from New York that have moved there and taken their liberal attitudes with them and also the fact that Jeb Bush didn't have the intestinal fortitude to do what's right and stop Terri's killing.

I didn't expect a proper autopsy to be performed. All the principals involved, from the White House on down want this to go away. They want us conservatives who fought for Terri to go away...we and her were a nuisance that detracted from their agendas.
