Schindler Coroner Nixed from Terri Autopsy

Dr. Cyril H. Wecht, the well-known forensic pathologist and coroner of Allegheny County, Pa., told listeners of a morning radio show that he was denied permission to observe Terri Schiavo's autopsy, despite the wishes of her parents.

A medical examiner in Pinellas County, Florida, is conducting an autopsy that could help determine what Schiavo's state of consciousness was and whether she was abused by her husband, as the Schindlers allege. Wecht, appearing on the syndicated America's Morning Show with Quinn and Rose, based in Pittsburgh, said that an investigator working for the Schindler's law firm had called him on Thursday to see whether he would be agreeable to observing the autopsy.

Dr. Wecht told Quinn and Rose he was certainly be agreeable to that, but that several hours later he received word that the medical examiner had declined to give him permission.

Dr. Wecht told the morning hosts that he considered this a mistake, according to Rose Somma Tennent. "He said that, if this were in [his] office, [he] would have said sure - not just because of professional courtesy, but because of the controversy sourrounding this case," Somma Tennet said.

Calls made during the show to the medical examiner's office were not returned.

The results from the autopsy are expected in a few weeks.

No, you'll have the local ME, the Schindler's pathologist, and the Schiavo's pathologist because you know he's going to demand one of his own if the Schindler's get their's

I have no problem with three witnesses to the autopsy.

I think there are some people in here that need to change the angle of their tinfoil hats and move on to a different conspiracy theory. You have worn this one out! Maybe take up Bigfoot hunting again, it will get you away from your keyboards and out in the clear, clean air.

No. That makes us even. Neither of us knows if he is neutral or not.

This is starting to get suspicious. There is an odd odor from something.

This does not pass the "smell test," RW! But then nothing about this case ever has....

And you forgot to mention that MS's new wife's mother retired from County employment and the Hospice is big business there. I agree that the autopsy should be performed elsewhere by an indisputably neutral third party - Just as a de novo review of the facts leading to Terri's death should have gone forward.

Me either.

I would think the ME would want at least one or two people there to take the heat off him when the findings are rendered...

That is if he is honest!

Yet he wonders why people believe that he's a murderer.

It was my undestanding that each party could request their own reps to be there.

Just what we need, a publicity hound involved in the autopsy.

Guess Greta had him all lined up for an interview.

This was talked about on Glen Beck this am, and also that there would not be a complete autopsy done.

Then shouldn't we give him the benefit of the doubt?

Why?

Why not? If I have no reason to doubt his competence or his impartiality then why should I

The word is "observe"--you can really only have one authentic autopsy.

The ME is very stupid to do this. It will cast a cloud over his findings.
