I am Protestant and respect this great man, the Pope. He truly reached across and drew us into his love.
Prayers for the Pope and my Catholic friends.

The nonsense perpetrated in the name of the Church reaches new heights.

Pray away. Prayer never harmed anyone, and it makes the one doing the praying feel good. I'm for it!

I've never been able to grasp why people hate Catholics and Jews. Never have, never will. Actually, I'm kinda glad I don't.

We used to have two Fiat 128's. You had to sacrifice small animals to Baal to get them to start.

The power of God is fantastic in that man's life. I know how you feel.

Any threads meant to do so are being deleted. Don't be surprised they are coming here. I have decided to not argue about doctrine here past my first initial comments due to my respect for the Pope and desire for us to reflect on his life of service to God.

But, don't be surprised if others aren't so disciplined.

The Pope represents the religious belief of a huge portion of the Christians on this planet. On that basis alone, he deserves the respect of every thinking person.

Well said, and I agree with your entire post. I'm an agnostic but I have Catholic friends, both real and cyber. They're losing someone very important to them today and we all should be considerate, supportive and offer comfort to them as if they were losing a member of their immediate family (which in a sense they are).
It doesn't matter how we feel about the Pope - how do we feel about our friends and fellow human beings who are in mourning? Would we say bad things about their father or uncle who was dying?
The heartlessness of those who come in and crap on these threads where people are grieving is appalling.

Not being Catholic, I myself have the most admiration for the Pope as a political figure and head of state. He's done some pretty gutsy things and his role in the fall of communism will never be forgotten. He is/was one of the Good Guys and will be sorely missed.

Catholic friends, you have my condolences on what must be a terrible day for you.

"We used to have two Fiat 128's. You had to sacrifice small animals to Baal to get them to start."

I've only had one...a 1959 Fiat 600. The only good thing about it is that you could pull the engine in less than half an hour, and you didn't even need a hoist. It only weighed about 100 lb., so you just grabbed the intake and exhaust manifolds and pulled it out the back of the car.

Maybe the problem was that I'm an atheist. I believe you MUST have a St. Christopher medallion hanging from the rear view mirror of all Fiats to make them go. I neglected that part.

Don't you see a difference between asking a friend to pray for you and asking a dead person to do so?

Do you have a dead relative?

Have you ever "talked" to him/her?

He's referring to all the so-called prophecies expecting an anti-christ pope...

Respect your opinion and appreciate your insight. Let me also offer this point of view (not altogether different):

Protestants actually do believe in intercessory prayer in terms of one another praying for each other..the thing we have in common is that we are all praying TO God. Protestants don't feel that it is necessary to ask a "saint" to intercede on our behalf, but that we have the "priesthood of every believer".

That's why I said we have more in common than differences...

Seems some hate Jews because the Jews killed Jesus, of course there were no Christians then and the early ones were previously Jews, so I don't get it. Some of the hatred toward Catholics seems to be because they claim to be the true church of Christ, but that claim seems to be historically correct, so I don't get that one either.

I won't be surprised at all. Between those booted from FR over Terri Schiavo and those who will be booted in the next few days over the Pope, I think it's good riddance to all of the disruptors.

I'm afraid the pulled posts will multiply once the Pope is dead and the process of electing a new Pope is going on. I feel for the moderators.

And now that I said that, I will shut up regarding Catholic doctrine and only talk about the Pope's situation today.

Obviously, you don't know anything about Catholic Doctrine. Therefore you should not talk about that which you do not know.
