Now that the Pope is being nurished by a feeding tube and undoubedtedly would not want to live that way, it is time to consider bringing in the ‘big guns’ to raise some sense in the minds of the courts in Florida and Atlanta.
If there are any horse ranchers out there with a sick horse, a disabled horse, here is what you need to do.
Take that poor old animal, place it in a stall by itself and announce to the world (be sure to send out press releases) that you have decided the horse, on account the poor animal is not conscious, would not want to live that way and you have decided to withhold food and water until the poor horse expires.
You do not want to divorce the horse or sell it, as that would be passing the responsibility of allowing it to die off to someone else who might not agree with the concept.
You do not want to keep the horse alive as it is just taking up a stall you would prefer to use for the horse you got to replace it, long ago.
You do not want to just put it out of its misery with a head shot as the horse dead, would not bring you the fifteen minutes of public fame your pathetic life has lived long enough without. And how could you sue the vet who said your horse was not conscious if it survived?
So make the calls and send out the press releases. Invite the press to cover the starvation. They love a horse and pony show. “Rancher To Starve Horse, The Most Humane Way To End Its Life With Dignity”. I can see it now: headlines across the media.
And then the ‘big guns’ will arrive.
PETA will set up tents and picket your farm. They will file suit to stop the inhumane means of terminating your horse’s life. They will invoke news stories and front-page coverage of the horrible way you treat your horse.
You will be condemned in the media for how badly you would dare treat your horse. You will receive death threats from well meaning people (with mental problems) who find your starving a horse to be cruel and unusual treatment.
Then, just file a brief with your state court and find a judge who has a relative on the board of the local humane society. Bring in the ranch hand and perhaps a long lost cousin of yours to testify that they heard the horse exclaim it did not want to live if it could not be conscious. The judge will buy it. State judges appear to not concern themselves with hearsay issues when the result is to give ‘dignity’ to the forced “process” of dying. And we all know, in a civil court, once the judge has ruled the lies become the facts and the rules kick in to protect them.
Come to think of it, the moment that horse stopped growing, it started the long process of dying. Perhaps you should put the rest of your stable of horses out of their misery now instead of incurring vet bills along the way?!?
And don’t forget PETA. PETA will mobilize the army of protesters needed to drive you into the ground. The press will lend shoulders and hankies to the marchers and write stories about their own experiences in feeding a horse and caring for the disabled equine.
Make sure you do not appear at the protest site. Send a lawyer who agrees with the concept of killing the disabled when they can no longer defend themselves. Let him tell PETA and the cameras how the horse never looked better and how the morphine suppositories you have been shoving in the horse are to keep the replacement horse from hearing the cries of hunger and thirst. After all, you would not want the replacement horse to start wondering what will happen to it when it becomes disabled or cannot speak for itself.
As you know, people have a hard time relating to suffering by other people. Unless a person has suffered the same way, they have no relevance to the pain and anguish. With so many stories of death and suffering covering the news these days its a wonder everyone is not jaded to the thought. But you also know, let an animal suffer, put it on television, have PETA Protest and the do-gooders will come out of the woodwork, within hours, not 12 days like it took a prominent preacher, recently.
You can make a statement. You can get some momentary fame. You can set up the law suit against your vet all in one act.
Treat your horse like Terri Schiavo.
You’ll go to prison for it, but the point will have been made.
Next: How long can the Vatican hold out before declaring that the Holy Father is unable to decide for himself and the tube needs to go? The Reverend Jerry Falwell is on a respirator. How long will THAT be allowed. If either one cannot speak for themselves, look out. There will be religious job openings. Where’s PETA when you need them?
Save us all from the Florida judiciary.

How about having our national and state legislators eliminate capital punishment by lethal injection, electrocution, gas and so forth, and institute capital punishment through deprivation of food and water--as a cost saving measure of course.
